About Careertakes

👉 Important disclosure: Careertakes is a third-party recruiting platform supporting this hiring process. If selected, you will be employed directly by our client, an automotive augmented-reality (AR HUD) and embedded-systems technology company serving automotive OEMs and Tier‑1 suppliers.

Role overview

Confidential Client is hiring an Entry‑Level Software Engineer to join a small, hands‑on team building real‑time software for automotive augmented‑reality head‑up displays (AR HUD) and eye‑tracking systems. This role is a strong fit for a candidate who enjoys working close to hardware and wants broad exposure across embedded software, sensing, and graphics integration. Occasional travel (up to ~20%) to customer and partner sites is required.

What you’ll do

  • Design, implement, test, and maintain C/C++ software for AR HUD and eye‑tracking systems in an Ubuntu/Linux environment.
  • Integrate eye‑tracking hardware and software: sensor data acquisition, head/eye pose processing, and feeding data to the rendering pipeline.
  • Develop and validate CAN‑bus communication: decode signals from DBC files, send/receive messages, and verify behavior with logging and analysis tools.
  • Contribute to Unity‑based rendering workflows, including integrating native C/C++ plugins and real‑time vehicle/sensor data.
  • Support display, optical, and sensor calibration tasks: run calibration procedures, collect and analyze results, and improve calibration tools.
  • Troubleshoot issues across application, OS, driver, and hardware layers using logs, gdb, strace, Valgrind, and system tools.
  • Prepare and support product demonstrations, test benches, and in‑vehicle setups both in‑house and at customer locations.
  • Collaborate with external customers and partners (OEMs and Tier‑1s) on technical integration and deliverables under guidance from senior engineers.
  • Use Git for version control and code review, track work in Jira, and document designs and findings in Confluence.

Minimum qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree (or expected completion prior to start) in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • Strong programming skills in C and C++ (object‑oriented design, memory management, debugging).
  • Comfortable working in Linux: command line, shell scripting, and build systems (CMake, Make, etc.).
  • Familiarity with Git and collaborative development workflows.
  • Strong problem‑solving aptitude and willingness to learn across software, hardware, and system boundaries.
  • Clear English communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to travel up to approximately 20%, including internationally; must be able to obtain a valid passport and any required travel authorizations within ~60 days of hire (travel fees reimbursed).

Preferred skills

  • Experience with CAN‑bus tools/interfaces (SocketCAN, can‑utils, Vector CANoe/CANalyzer, PCAN, DBC files).
  • Experience with eye tracking, computer vision (OpenCV), or camera/sensor integration.
  • Experience with Unity (C#) or graphics programming (OpenGL, Vulkan, shaders) and 3D math.
  • Exposure to camera, display, or sensor calibration and related math (linear algebra, geometry).
  • System‑level debugging (gdb, Valgrind, strace, perf) and familiarity with multithreading / IPC.
  • Python for scripting, test automation, or data analysis.
  • Experience with Jira and Confluence.
  • Prior exposure to automotive, embedded, AR/VR, or display systems through coursework, internships, or projects.

Working conditions & accommodations

  • Work performed primarily in an office and laboratory environment, including hardware test benches.
  • Some work in and around vehicles for configuring and testing in‑vehicle setups (may involve extended periods sitting in vehicles and handling test equipment).
  • Travel to customer and partner sites as described above.
  • Confidential Client provides reasonable accommodation to enable qualified individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions, with or without accommodation.

Compensation (estimated)

  • Estimated pay: $97,050 per year (reported estimate). Actual pay offered will depend on experience, skills, and location and will comply with applicable pay‑transparency laws.

Why apply via Careertakes

  • Third‑party recruiting support with potential access to additional matched opportunities.
  • Confidential Client offers hands‑on, early‑career exposure to full automotive AR systems — great growth opportunity for engineers who like systems work that spans software, sensors, and hardware.
