Role Overview
This entry-level Software Engineer will join a cross-functional team developing cybersecurity software for U.S. Navy submarine and surface platforms. You will contribute to software design, development, testing, and integration in both lab and onboard environments. The role requires working with modern languages, containerization tools, and COTS/open-source integrations.
- Develop new software components in Java, C, C++, and Python
- Integrate COTS tools and open-source products via APIs
- Containerize applications and deploy using Docker/Podman (and related tooling)
- Build multi‑tier systems (database integration, identification/authentication, data capture)
- Write and execute unit tests and support component/system integration
- Participate in technical and program meetings with internal and external stakeholders
- Research and evaluate new technologies for operational adoption
Note on clearance and eligibility:
- Department of Defense Secret clearance is preferred at time of hire. Applicants selected will be subject to a U.S. Government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information.

What You’ll Bring
- Bachelor’s degree in Software Engineering, Engineering, Science, Mathematics, or equivalent experience
- Familiarity with the software development lifecycle, configuration management, and production-quality coding practices
- Hands-on experience (or coursework/projects) with one or more of: Java (JavaFX), Spring, C/C++, Python
- Linux experience (basic OS comprehension and shell scripting), preferably Red Hat or derivatives
- Knowledge of containerization technologies on Linux (Docker, Podman, Kubernetes/RKE2)
- Experience integrating open-source and custom software; middle-tier integration and data-driven design
- Understanding of cybersecurity best practices and Agile/DevOps methodologies
- Strong technical problem-solving skills and ability to learn quickly
- Team-player mindset with a commitment to continuous professional development
- Interest in applying AI/ML methods to improve tools and workflows is a plus
Compensation & Benefits
- Estimated base pay: USD $77,843 - USD $86,358 per year

Location & Workplace

- This role involves work in both laboratory and shipboard environments as required.
