About the Role

Confidential Client is hiring a Software Engineer for its Engine Systems team to build core diagnostic instrumentation that helps monitor stability, performance, and session health across client platforms. You will work on platform-level systems that detect hangs, crashes, performance regressions, and other disruptions — enabling engineering teams to deliver safe, reliable weekly updates at global scale.

What You’ll Do

  • Build and maintain components (predominantly C++) that report stability, reliability, and performance signals across client platforms.
  • Write well-instrumented, production-quality systems-level code for supported platforms (mobile, desktop, and major consoles).
  • Design and deliver tooling and signals that help engineers detect, triage, and resolve disruptions to the user experience.
  • Navigate hardware and vendor-specific limitations while building reliable cross-platform telemetry and diagnostics.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to iterate on instrumentation and improve the signal quality and developer workflows.

What We’re Looking For

  • 1+ years of professional software engineering experience, with ownership of complex technical systems.
  • Comfortable with systems programming languages such as C++, C#, Objective‑C, Rust, or similar.
  • Practical experience or strong interest in diagnostics, crash reporting, performance instrumentation, or low-level systems.
  • Curiosity about engine internals and a willingness to work across the stack to understand end-to-end behavior.
  • A long-term mindset: you consider how design and implementation affect maintainability and user experience over time.
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience preferred.

Please note: For some U.S.-based roles the client may not be able to employ candidates who require certain U.S. visa sponsorship (including future H‑1B or F‑1 sponsorship). If you require visa sponsorship now or in the future, please consider this before applying.

Location & Schedule

  • Role is based in California. Onsite expectations may include attendance Tuesday–Thursday, with optional presence Monday and Friday (subject to the client’s local office policy).

Compensation & Benefits

  • Annual base salary range (for California-based hires): $168,680 — $212,490 USD. Actual pay depends on job-related factors such as experience, skills, and location and may fall outside this range in certain circumstances.
  • Full-time employees are also eligible for equity compensation and benefits as described by the client.
  • Confidential Client provides reasonable accommodations to applicants with qualifying disabilities or religious beliefs during the recruiting process.

Keywords & Good Fits

  • Systems-level C++ engineer
  • Diagnostics / crash reporting / instrumentation
  • Performance and stability monitoring
  • Cross-platform (mobile, desktop, consoles)
  • Early-career / 1+ year experience
