What You’ll Do

Confidential Client is hiring Software Engineers to design, develop, test, and maintain Machinery Control System (MCS) software that supports DDG-51 Arleigh Burke Class destroyer systems. You will work across the software lifecycle, collaborating with Navy civilian engineers, contractors, ship forces, OEMs, and engineering management to deliver reliable, maintainable embedded and supporting software.

  • Develop, test, install, and maintain Machinery Control Systems software and related supporting products
  • Maintain working knowledge of the DDG-51 Machinery Control System and associated interfaces
  • Use Microsoft Visual Studio and Git for day-to-day development and version control
  • Troubleshoot, debug, and resolve software and system issues (remote and on-site support)
  • Produce and maintain software requirements, technical documentation, user manuals, and training materials
  • Participate in design reviews, code reviews, and integration testing
  • Provide distance and onsite support during deployments and shipboard activations

Required Qualifications

Note: multiple levels are being recruited (Entry, Mid, Senior). Candidates should apply to the level that matches their experience.

Entry Level

  • Bachelor’s degree in an engineering discipline (Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering preferred)
  • 0–3 years professional experience
  • Active DoD Secret clearance or ability to obtain one
  • Valid U.S. passport or ability to obtain one upon hire
  • Willingness to travel 10–20%
  • Salary Range: $65,200 - $101,950

Mid Level

  • Bachelor’s degree in an engineering discipline (Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering preferred)
  • 3+ years professional experience
  • Active DoD Secret clearance or ability to obtain one
  • Valid U.S. passport or ability to obtain one upon hire
  • Willingness to travel 10–20%
  • Salary Range: $78,900 - $123,300

Senior Level

  • Master’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or Electrical Engineering preferred
  • 10+ years professional experience
  • Active DoD Secret clearance or ability to obtain one
  • Valid U.S. passport or ability to obtain one upon hire
  • Willingness to travel 10–20%
  • Salary Range: $105,100 - $164,125

Physical & Work Environment Requirements

Positions supporting shipboard or pierside activities may require work in confined or moving environments and physical activity consistent with naval industrial locations. Typical requirements include:

  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods and navigate uneven or wet surfaces
  • Capability to climb ladders, stairs, and work in constrained areas (e.g., overhead, below-deck, narrow passageways)
  • Manual dexterity and ability to lift/handle up to ~50 lbs regularly (with assistance for heavier items)
  • Ability to work in varying environmental conditions (temperature, humidity, exposure to elements)

Desired Qualifications & Skills

  • Experience with Microsoft .NET Framework and Visual Studio
  • Proficiency with C, C++, and/or C#
  • Familiarity with Git or similar version control systems
  • Basic networking protocol knowledge (TCP/IP, UDP) and experience supporting IP-based systems
  • Experience with databases (MS Access, SQL)
  • Prior work supporting naval, defense, or safety-critical embedded systems is a plus

Compensation & Travel

  • Projected compensation ranges are listed above by level and are based on full-time employment. Part-time compensation would be adjusted proportionally.
  • Travel required: approximately 10–20% (may include ship visits and onsite support)
  • Clearance: Active DoD Secret or the ability to obtain one is required; U.S. passport required or ability to obtain upon hire
