About the Role
Confidential Client is hiring an Early Career Software Engineer to help build and improve core user experiences at scale. In this role you'll deliver production-quality features, iterate based on data and customer feedback, and contribute to platform and tooling improvements that help engineering teams move quickly and safely. This is a full-time position based in San Francisco, CA.
What You’ll Achieve
- Plan, build, and ship product features from conception to launch and iterate using customer insights.
- Improve performance, reliability, and quality for experiences used by millions of users.
- Run experiments to drive activation, retention, collaboration, and revenue in partnership with design and data teams.
- Build internal tools and platform improvements that increase developer velocity and safety.
- Contribute to team norms, code quality, and a culture of learning and thoughtful tradeoffs.
Areas You Might Work On
- Core product features (editor, databases, collaboration and sharing flows).
- AI and automation features that make the product more contextual and efficient.
- Growth & activation work to improve onboarding and user engagement.
- Platform and infrastructure: backend services, performance and scalability improvements.
Skills You'll Need
- Less than two years of professional engineering experience with strong fundamentals in data structures, algorithms, and distributed systems.
- Thoughtful problem solving — you decompose complex problems, balance business impact, and navigate ambiguity.
- Impact-driven approach — you use technology pragmatically to deliver user value rather than for its own sake.
- High agency and proactive communication — you own work, surface progress and blockers, and drive tasks forward.
Nice to Haves
- Experience with parts of the stack: React, TypeScript, Node.js, Postgres, Elasticsearch.
- Interest in how technology and society interact and a responsibility-driven approach to building features.
- Familiarity with AI-assisted development tools and workflows.
Compensation & Benefits
- Estimated base salary range for San Francisco-based hires: $130,000 - $150,000 per year. Final pay is determined by factors including location, role scope, and candidate experience.
- Competitive cash compensation, equity, and benefits (medical, dental, retirement options, paid time off, etc.). Specific benefits vary by location and will be shared during the hiring process.
