Role Overview

Confidential Client is seeking a contract Software Engineer — Device Testing to support device and firmware test efforts at their Sunnyvale, CA location. This hands-on role focuses on developing and executing test plans, building and maintaining automated test suites, and collaborating with engineering teams to improve product quality and reliability.

What You’ll Do

• Design and execute system- and device-level test plans for connected hardware products
• Develop automated tests and test frameworks to validate firmware, drivers, and device integrations
• Reproduce, triage, and document defects; work closely with firmware/hardware/software engineers to resolve issues
• Build and maintain test harnesses, lab setups, and CI test pipelines for repeatable device validation
• Analyze test results, produce clear reports, and recommend improvements to product and test processes

What We’re Looking For

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or related technical field (per job posting)
• Proven experience in device or firmware testing, test automation, or similar hands-on QA engineering work
• Strong scripting ability for test automation (e.g., Python, Bash) and familiarity with test frameworks and CI systems
• Practical experience working with hardware test setups, instrument control, or hardware-in-the-loop testing
• Solid problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams

Nice to Have

• Experience with embedded software, drivers, or board-level bring-up
• Familiarity with version control (Git), test reporting tools, and lab management tools
• Prior work in an IT services / IT consulting environment supporting customer deployments
