Software Engineer
The Software Engineer at Confidential Client will develop and integrate safety-critical software for missile systems and weapon system test equipment, focusing on Aegis Weapons Systems. The role involves software development for missile communication test sets, real-time data analysis, and participation in integration and flight test events, contributing to national security through technical excellence.

What You’ll Do
- Design, develop, integrate, and test safety‑critical software for missile system communications test sets and virtual operational missile (VOM) programs.
- Develop and maintain software for SM‑2, SM‑3, SM‑6, and ESSM Communications Test Sets and Monitor & Control units.
- Implement and support Kill Assessment System (KAS) playback and real‑time data analysis tools.
- Interface with MK 41 Vertical Launching System (VLS) and Aegis Weapon System components and APIs.
- Support Waterfront Integration Tests (WITs), land‑based tests, and flight test events; contribute to test planning and execution.
- Write efficient, maintainable C++ for embedded systems running an RTOS; debug and optimize on target hardware.
- Collaborate with cross‑functional teams (hardware engineers, test engineers, systems engineers) to deliver integrated solutions and technical documentation.
Qualifications (Required)
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
- Demonstrated software engineering experience writing C++ for embedded/RTOS environments.
- Experience with RTOS concepts and embedded development workflows.
- Active Secret security clearance (must hold at time of hire).
- Proven experience in hardware/software integration and participation in field or flight test events.
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and written/verbal communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience supporting Aegis BMD, AAW, or missile flight test programs.
- Familiarity with Standard Missile initialization messages and telemetry formats.
- Experience with VxWorks RTOS (including SMP / multi‑core architectures).
- Background with missile simulators, test equipment, and real‑time data analysis tools.
Location & Clearance
- On‑site in Dahlgren, VA. This role requires the ability to work at client facilities and participate in waterfront and flight test events as needed.
- Must be a U.S. person authorized to work in the U.S. and hold an active Secret security clearance at time of hire.
