About the Role
Confidential Client is seeking a Software Engineer — Cybersecurity to join a systems and embedded-software team supporting next-generation defense programs in the St. Charles, MO (St. Louis area). This role focuses on designing, developing, and validating embedded and application-level software for mission-critical systems. Candidates must hold an active U.S. Secret security clearance and be eligible to obtain Top Secret and Special Program access.
What You’ll Do
- Design, develop, test, and maintain embedded and application software through the full development lifecycle.
- Translate requirements and system-level needs into software designs and interfaces.
- Implement software components using C++, Python, and C# while targeting Linux-based environments.
- Integrate and validate software across unit, subsystem, and system-level testing.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams (systems, hardware, test, and integration) to deliver robust solutions.
- Author and maintain software documentation, interface definitions, and test artifacts.
- Participate in peer code reviews and apply software engineering best practices (version control with Git, CI workflows).
- Work within domain-specific constraints for safety, reliability, and regulatory compliance in defense systems.
Qualifications
Required
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Data Science, or a related technical field.
- Active U.S. Secret security clearance with the ability to obtain Top Secret and Special Program access.
- 3+ years of relevant software engineering experience (level may vary between Associate to Senior based on specific opening).
- Hands-on experience with C++, Python, and/or C# for system or embedded development.
- Proficiency developing on Linux and using Git for version control.
- Familiarity with network architectures and TCP/UDP communication protocols.
- Experience with unit testing, integration testing, and software verification/validation.
Preferred
- Prior work on embedded systems or defense/aerospace programs.
- Strong software architecture and systems-thinking skills.
- Experience with secure coding practices and testing in safety- or security-critical domains.
