What You’ll Do

As a Software Engineer on the Cyber Team you’ll design, build, test, and ship software that supports cybersecurity, resilience, and secure operation for critical naval systems. You will work on the Submarine Warfare Federated Tactical Systems (SWFTS) program and be part of a multidisciplinary team delivering production-grade code to mission platforms.

  • Develop applications, APIs, automation, and prototypes for cyber and data systems
  • Use professional engineering tools (Git, Linux, Atlassian suite) and follow configuration-management best practices
  • Participate in Agile ceremonies — daily scrums, two-week sprints, program increments, demos, and retrospectives
  • Build and validate automation, CI/CD, and tooling that improve security and developer productivity
  • Learn and apply modern cybersecurity, cloud, container, and AI-assisted development techniques under mentorship

What We’re Looking For

This role is open to new graduates and early-career engineers as well as experienced candidates who want to work on defense-grade cyber systems. The Confidential Client hires for aptitude, curiosity, and growth potential.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, Information Systems, or a related technical field (graduating seniors welcome)
  • 1+ year of hands-on programming or relevant project experience (coursework, internships, research, or open-source counts)
  • Proficiency in at least one general-purpose language such as Java, Python, or C++
  • Demonstrated ability to learn new technologies quickly and apply them to practical problems
  • Strong collaboration skills and ability to handle independent tasking with clear written and verbal communication
  • Foundational exposure to software concepts such as networking, operating systems, databases, or cybersecurity through coursework or projects
  • Must be a U.S. citizen and able to obtain a DoD Secret clearance (active clearance not required to apply)

Preferred / Desired Experience

Candidates with any of the following will stand out, though none are strictly required:

  • Familiarity with Git, Linux, and Atlassian tools (Jira, Confluence)
  • Experience with REST APIs, containers (Docker, Kubernetes), or databases
  • Internship, co-op, capstone, research, or open-source contributions in software/cybersecurity
  • Exposure to AI-assisted development tools (e.g., VS Code AI extensions, Cursor, Claude Code)
  • Hands-on work in cybersecurity tooling, vulnerability assessment, DevSecOps, container security, or security-focused data analytics

Benefits & Perks

Successful candidates receive competitive wages and a robust benefits package through the Confidential Client, including:

  • Medical coverage options through leading carriers
  • Comprehensive dental and vision plans
  • 401(k) retirement savings with employer matching (generous match up to 8% of eligible compensation)
  • Employer-paid life and AD&D insurance; supplemental coverage and disability plans available
  • Paid holidays and generous PTO program
  • Tuition reimbursement and employee referral bonuses

Work Environment & Travel

  • Office and computer laboratory environments; extended periods of working at a computer (sitting/standing)
  • Infrequent lifting under 40 lbs.; movement between nearby facilities or buildings
  • Travel: quarterly (approximately four times per year)

Clearance & Citizenship

This role requires the ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret clearance. Candidates must be U.S. citizens. An active clearance is not required to apply.
