What You’ll Do
Confidential Client is hiring a Software Engineer, Cryptography to design, build, and operate production-grade cryptographic services and infrastructure in Bellevue, WA. You'll help build a new in-house card-processing environment and shared key-management capabilities used across engineering teams.
- Design, build, and maintain production services and infrastructure for key management, encryption, and decryption.
- Architect, launch, and scale an in-house card-processing system to protect cardholder, financial, and tax-related data.
- Write clean, maintainable production code and build operational tooling spanning software, infrastructure, and security controls.
- Partner with internal engineering teams to enable safe system design, migrations, and adoption of shared cryptographic capabilities.
- Participate in a rotating on-call schedule to maintain availability, security, and operational reliability.
Minimum Qualifications
- Experience building, operating, or supporting production services, distributed systems, or infrastructure.
- Proficiency writing production code in at least one modern language (Python, Go, Java, C#, or C++) and reasoning about complex systems.
- Comfortable working across software development, infrastructure, and operational reliability domains.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills; able to explain technical decisions and collaborate across teams.
- Curiosity and a willingness to learn security engineering and cryptographic practices; able to participate in a light on-call rotation.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent practical experience.
Preferred (Nice-to-Have) Qualifications
- Prior experience in site reliability engineering (SRE), platform engineering, or cloud security.
- Familiarity with key-management systems, secrets management, or cryptographic concepts (symmetric encryption, public/private key pairs).
- Experience processing sensitive financial, payment, or card data in regulated environments.
- Background supporting internal customer migrations or driving platform adoption across engineering teams.
Location & Work Arrangement
- Location: Bellevue, WA (on-site presence expected at least 3 days per week).
- This role is based in the Bellevue office and requires regular in-person collaboration to support engineering, security, and operations teams.
Compensation & Benefits
- Employment type: Full-time.
- Base pay range for Bellevue, WA (Zone 1): $166,000 — $195,000 USD per year.
- In addition to base pay, this role may be eligible for performance bonuses, equity grants, and comprehensive benefits including medical coverage, 401(k) matching, paid time off, employer-paid life & disability insurance, mental health resources, and a flexible benefits spending account.
- Final pay will depend on job-related factors such as experience, education, and business needs.
