Role Overview
Confidential Client is hiring a Software Engineer to build and maintain engineering-scale tools that accelerate constellation design, testing, and evaluation workflows. You will develop infrastructure for automated testing, data collection and analysis, reproducible pipelines for trade studies, and visualization tools that engineering teams rely on daily.
What You’ll Do
- Build and maintain Python-based tools, libraries, and services that streamline engineering workflows.
- Design infrastructure for high-volume automated testing: capture results, store time-series data, and make outcomes queryable.
- Implement CI/CD pipelines and Git-based workflows to support reproducible analyses and deployments.
- Create pipelines and tooling to organize and evaluate engineering trade studies (config management, versioned runs, automated comparisons).
- Develop visualization and reporting tools (dashboards, plots, web UIs) for engineering review and decision-making.
- Integrate and automate lab test equipment where needed (instrument control, data ingestion).
- Collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams to ensure the tools you build are adopted and operationalized.
- Work autonomously while exercising sound engineering judgment in a fast-paced startup environment.
Basic Qualifications
- B.S. in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical field.
- Strong proficiency in modern Python (type hints, testing, packaging, idiomatic library design).
- Comfortable with structured data formats and validation (YAML, JSON, pydantic or equivalent).
- Proficient with Git workflows and CI/CD tooling.
- Experience writing and maintaining unit and integration tests.
- Proficiency on Linux and the command line.
- Demonstrated ability to build tools that other engineers actually adopt.
- Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and make pragmatic engineering trade-offs.
Preferred Qualifications
- 3+ years professional software development experience.
- Experience building data pipelines around automated test systems (capture, indexing, queryability).
- Hands-on experience automating lab test equipment and instrument control (SCPI, VISA, PyVISA, IVI, GPIB, LXI).
- Familiarity with the scientific Python stack: NumPy, SciPy, pandas.
- Experience with visualization libraries and dashboard frameworks (matplotlib, Plotly, Streamlit, Dash, Panel).
- Experience with workflow orchestration (Airflow, Prefect, Dagster, or similar).
- Familiarity with time-series or experiment-tracking systems (InfluxDB, TimescaleDB, MLflow, or similar).
- Containerization experience (Docker) and reproducible environment management.
- Prior experience in fast-moving startup engineering environments is a plus.
