About the Role

Confidential Client is hiring a Software Engineer to join its Phantom Works team in Berkeley, MO. This role supports advanced R&D for open-architecture systems and space-based effects that support air-domain missions. You will design, implement, and test software used for modeling, simulation, and prototyping in a high-security environment.

What You’ll Do

• Lead planning and execution of software development activities from design through testing and delivery.
• Translate stakeholder needs and system requirements into maintainable software with traceability to design and test artifacts.
• Perform system-level analyses to identify risks and drive mitigation throughout the software lifecycle.
• Write, review, and maintain clean, well-documented code in Java and/or C++; perform thorough code reviews.
• Oversee verification and validation activities, triage issues, and ensure features meet acceptance criteria.
• Track product and process alignment with project plans and standards; report on team and supplier performance metrics.
• Mentor and coach junior engineers to promote software engineering best practices.
• Interface with multidisciplinary teams and a variety of development tools and languages to meet system requirements.

Qualifications

Minimum required

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Physics, or a related technical field, or equivalent experience.
• Active Top Secret U.S. security clearance (required).
• 5+ years of professional software engineering experience.
• Strong experience with Java and/or C++.
• 3+ years leading software development efforts or leading small engineering teams.
• 1+ year of MATLAB experience.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills; proven ability to work with customers and technical teams.

Preferred

• Advanced degree (MS or PhD) in a relevant field.
• Experience with physics-based modeling and simulation tools.
• Familiarity with DevSecOps practices, CI/CD pipelines, and modern testing frameworks.
• Experience working on defense, aerospace, or other high-assurance software projects.

Location & Clearance

• Work location: Berkeley, MO (on-site or as required by the program).
• Security: Active Top Secret clearance is required and must be maintained for ongoing employment. Employment eligibility consistent with clearance requirements is required.
