What You’ll Do

  • Update an authorization service to dynamically validate user access based on qualification status and permission ownership, replacing legacy hard-coded mappings.
  • Remove static business-unit filters that exclude qualified users from authorization flows.
  • Integrate the authorization service with downstream permission management systems (RBAC) and upstream eligibility/qualification services (training completion tracking).
  • Ensure authorization logic accounts for variations in how business units define role requirements and training sources.
  • Participate in code reviews, unit/integration testing, documentation, and production rollouts (note Q4 operational code freeze considerations).
  • Design for scalability as new business units and process paths are onboarded.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams on service-to-service integration and operational readiness.

Required Qualifications

  • 3+ years of professional software development experience.
  • 2+ years of system design or architecture experience (design patterns, reliability, scaling).
  • Experience with at least one programming language (Java preferred).
  • Experience across the full SDLC including code reviews, source control, CI/CD, testing, and operations.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and experience working on production services.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience building or modifying authorization/access-control systems.
  • Familiarity with role-based access control (RBAC) patterns.
  • Experience with distributed systems and service-to-service integration.
  • Experience with event-driven architectures (SNS/SQS or similar).
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent.

Contract Details & Compensation

  • Employment type: Contractor.
  • Duration: 6-month contract.
  • Location: Bellevue, WA (onsite with potential interactions across business-unit teams).
  • Base pay range (provided by the employer): $55.00/yr - $64.00/yr. Actual pay will be based on skills and experience and is subject to discussion with the recruiter.
