What You’ll Do

Confidential Client is hiring a Backend Software Engineer (Hybrid) to help design, build, deploy, and maintain backend services for an AI/ML platform. You will work on production-quality backend components that support AI apps, collaborating with cross-functional engineers and following established engineering practices.

• Contribute to the design and implementation of backend components for the AI/ML platform, working with senior engineers.
• Deploy, test, and validate services and infrastructure in production-like environments.
• Monitor and analyze system performance; troubleshoot and resolve routine reliability issues.
• Work with cross-functional teams to improve development and operational processes.
• Build foundational knowledge of LLM frameworks, AI tools, and distributed systems to support product goals.
• Follow secure coding, testing, and deployment best practices.

Minimum Qualifications

To be considered, candidates should meet the following baseline qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in a STEM field plus 2 years of relevant professional experience, or a Master’s degree in a STEM field.
• Experience building or operating ML/AI systems in production environments.
• Proficiency in Python and/or Go for backend development.
• Experience deploying and managing services on cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP).
• Familiarity with containerization (Docker), orchestration (Kubernetes), and microservices architectures.

• Exposure to generative AI, LLM frameworks, or related integration work.
• Interest in modern ML tooling, data pipelines, and ML Ops practices.
• Demonstrated ability to learn quickly and apply engineering best practices.

Compensation & Benefits

Careertakes and our client provide transparent compensation information for U.S. applicants.

• Posted base salary range for U.S. locations (new hires): $125,700 — $176,600 USD per year.
• Additional posted ranges for specific geographies (applicable if hired to those locations):
  • New York City Metro: $125,700 — $203,100 USD per year.
  • Non-Metro New York State & Washington State: $111,700 — $180,800 USD per year.
• Final pay is based on hiring location, candidate skills, experience, and other job-related factors.
• Typical benefits may include medical, dental, vision, retirement plan (401k) with employer match, paid time off, parental leave, disability coverage, and potential equity grants — specifics vary by location and are set by the hiring organization.

Work Location & Schedule

• This is a hybrid role based out of the Confidential Client’s San Jose, CA office. Candidates should be able to work on-site as required by the team’s hybrid schedule.
