About the Role

Confidential Client is hiring a Principal-level Backend Engineer to lead design, development, and maintenance of high-performance, scalable backend systems that power web and mobile applications. You’ll join a small, mission-driven, and organizationally flat team where individual contributors have strong ownership and impact. This is a remote role for candidates based in the United States.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, implement, and maintain scalable, high-performance backend services.
• Own development work end-to-end, from design and implementation through testing and delivery.
• Partner with frontend, product, and design teams to plan and deliver new features.
• Drive technical innovation; identify and implement improvements to architecture and processes.
• Mentor teammates and help establish best practices for reliability, observability, and performance.
• Contribute to product direction and long-term platform scalability.

Required Qualifications

• 10+ years of professional backend development experience.
• Demonstrated experience building and operating high-performance, scalable backend systems in production.
• Deep knowledge of:
  • TypeScript
  • Node.js
  • Solid.js and Solid Start SSR (familiarity preferred for integrating server-side rendering workflows)
  • PostgreSQL
  • AWS serverless architectures (Lambda, API Gateway, etc.)
  • Amazon Redshift (analytics/warehousing)
  • Redis
  • DynamoDB
• Strong problem‑solving and analytical skills.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills; proven ability to work effectively across distributed teams.
• Ability to work independently and take full ownership of projects.
• Must be authorized to work in the United States; Confidential Client is unable to sponsor visas.

• Previous startup experience or work in small, fast-moving teams.
• Experience building social or community-focused applications.
• Enterprise social networking or large-scale public-facing product experience.
