About the Role

Confidential Client is hiring an experienced BackEnd Software Engineer to own backend architecture and delivery for Model‑Based Engineering (MBE) tools and web services. You’ll design APIs, build data pipelines, optimize database performance, and help evolve prototypes and MVPs into scalable production systems used for critical engineering workflows.

What You’ll Do

• Lead design, implementation, documentation, and maintenance of backend systems and services.
• Design and build RESTful APIs and data-processing pipelines for web applications.
• Optimize database queries and schema design for Oracle and SQL Server backends.
• Build prototypes and convert MVPs into production‑ready services with strong CI/CD practices.
• Implement automated test suites and participate in code reviews to maintain high quality.
• Mentor engineers and provide technical leadership across projects.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams on architecture, logging, monitoring, authentication, and configuration management.
• Evaluate and adopt emerging technologies and best practices (containerization, orchestration, microservices, event-driven design).
• Troubleshoot and resolve complex performance, reliability, and scalability issues.
• Own project delivery from design through deployment with an emphasis on secure, maintainable systems.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Data Science, or related field (or equivalent experience).
• 5+ years of professional backend development experience.
• Strong proficiency in Java and the Spring ecosystem.
• Experience with relational databases (Oracle SQL, SQL Server) and query optimization.
• Familiarity with server-side languages such as Go or Python.
• Experience with cloud platforms (AWS) and common cloud services.
• Experience with containerization (Docker) and orchestration (Kubernetes).
• Familiarity with microservices and event-driven architectures.
• Experience with agile development practices and CI/CD pipelines.
• Must hold an active U.S. Secret security clearance (required for this role).

Preferred

• Top Secret security clearance.
• Deep experience building production infrastructure and observability (logging, tracing, alerts).
• Experience in high‑assurance, safety‑critical, or defense-related software systems.
• Prior experience with scaling distributed systems and designing resilient architectures.
