Role Overview
Confidential Client is hiring a hands‑on Software Engineer - AWS Cloud to design, build, and operate serverless AWS systems that process and manage emergency communications. You will develop cloud services and mobile backends that support iOS and Android clients, work closely with hardware and firmware engineers, and help deliver production-grade, secure systems in a small-team environment in Lowell, MA.
Responsibilities
- Design and implement AWS cloud applications for intelligent emergency reporting systems and devices.
- Build serverless, event-driven architectures using Lambda, DynamoDB, API Gateway, S3, CloudWatch, and related services.
- Develop and maintain mobile application backends that reliably support iOS and Android clients.
- Maintain version control, CI/CD pipelines, automated deployments, monitoring, and logging.
- Participate in design and code reviews and translate specifications into production-ready implementations.
- Analyze system trade-offs and own end-to-end execution while meeting schedule commitments.
- Apply IAM and security best practices (least-privilege access) for production systems.
- Troubleshoot operational issues and improve system reliability and observability.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
- 2+ years of software development experience in a product-oriented environment.
- Hands-on experience with AWS services, including Lambda, DynamoDB, CloudWatch, AWS IoT Core, API Gateway; S3 preferred.
- Strong proficiency in Node.js and solid working knowledge of JavaScript and TypeScript.
- Experience designing, deploying, and supporting production AWS environments.
- Familiarity with monitoring, logging, troubleshooting cloud applications, and CI/CD pipelines.
- Understanding of IAM, security best practices, and least-privilege access.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience building mobile backends for iOS and Android clients.
- Familiarity with iOS (Swift/Xcode) or Android (Kotlin/Java, Android Studio) development.
- Experience integrating mobile apps with AWS services (Cognito, AppSync, IoT, API Gateway).
- Knowledge of RESTful APIs and/or GraphQL.
- Experience with infrastructure-as-code (CloudFormation, CDK, or Terraform).
- Exposure to real-time messaging, MQTT, or IoT-driven systems.
- Experience working in cross-functional teams with hardware, firmware, or mobile developers.
