Role Overview
Confidential Client is hiring a Software Engineer, Associate to join an Agile team supporting NASA Earth science systems. You’ll work remotely most of the time, contributing to full-stack features and platform reliability for data discovery and metadata services. This is an early-career role (0–3 years experience) ideal for engineers skilled with modern web stacks, cloud platforms (AWS), and search technologies (Elasticsearch).
What You’ll Do
- Participate across the software development lifecycle: story generation, design, implementation, automated testing, deployment, and operational support.
- Develop and ship new features for the Earthdata Search Client (EDSC) and Common Metadata Repository (CMR).
- Build scalable, testable code in TypeScript/JavaScript and Python, and help maintain CI/CD pipelines.
- Troubleshoot production issues, lead product deployments, and suggest architecture or process improvements.
- Collaborate in an Agile/Scrum environment with regular PI planning and sprint ceremonies.
Work Arrangement & Travel
- Remote-first with telework allowed.
- Quarterly travel to Annapolis, MD (approximately 3 days) is required for PI planning and on-site coordination.
- No relocation assistance is available at this time.
Required Skills & Experience
- Experience in cloud environments—AWS preferred (EC2, Lambda, S3, RDS, API Gateway).
- Proficiency with TypeScript/JavaScript (Node.js, React) and Python.
- Hands-on experience with Elasticsearch or similar search/data engines.
- Familiarity with Agile/Scrum and tools such as Jira, Confluence, Bitbucket.
- Experience with automated testing, CI/CD pipelines, and standard SDLC practices.
- Strong problem-solving and debugging skills for distributed systems.
Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Analytics, Engineering, or a related discipline.
- 0–3 years of software development experience.
Desired (Nice-to-Have) Skills
- Experience with geospatial/GIS formats and tools (GeoJSON, KML, ArcGIS, QGIS).
- Familiarity with machine learning / AI concepts.
- Containerization & orchestration experience (Docker, Kubernetes).
- Knowledge of monitoring tools (CloudWatch, Datadog, Prometheus).
- Experience presenting at technical forums or leading knowledge-sharing sessions.
