What You’ll Do
Confidential Client is hiring an Application Software Engineer to design, build, and ship features for a high-usage desktop application focused on on-device AI. You will work across the stack, mixing UI development with systems engineering and applied AI/agentic engineering to deliver fast, polished product experiences to millions of users.
- Prototype, implement, and iterate on user-facing features for a desktop application
- Collaborate with design, product, and AI teams to craft intuitive interfaces and workflows
- Work on cross-platform desktop code paths and native integrations as needed
- Diagnose and optimize performance, memory, and responsiveness across the stack
- Contribute to architecture and system design discussions; own features end-to-end
- Write clean, testable code and participate in code reviews
Location & Work Arrangement
This role is based in New York City and is in-person at the New York office. Relocation assistance may be available. Candidates must be willing to work onsite as required by the team.
Compensation
- $175,000–$275,000 per year (base range disclosed by employer)

What We’re Looking For (Minimum Qualifications)
- 3+ years building production software (desktop, frontend, or systems)
- Practical experience with one or more of: React, TypeScript, Electron, Swift, Objective-C, or C++
- Strong product sense and the ability to balance UX, performance, and engineering trade-offs
- Clear communication skills and experience working cross-functionally
- Demonstrated ability to take ownership and deliver features end-to-end
Nice-to-Have (Preferred Skills)
- Prior experience building desktop applications (Electron or native)
- Background in on-device model integration or applied AI tooling
- Experience with macOS or Windows native tooling and performance tuning
- Familiarity with large-scale telemetry, metrics, and client-side diagnostics
