What You’ll Do

This confidential client is hiring a Software Engineer focused on API development to help design, build, and maintain high-quality APIs that power customer-facing and internal services. Typical responsibilities include:

• Design, develop, and maintain scalable, secure APIs and microservices.
• Implement RESTful or RPC-based endpoints with clear versioning and documentation.
• Collaborate with product managers, frontend engineers, and QA to deliver features end-to-end.
• Write automated unit and integration tests to ensure reliability.
• Troubleshoot performance, scalability, and reliability issues; participate in on-call rotations when required.
• Contribute to API design reviews, coding standards, and technical documentation.
• Work with CI/CD pipelines and deployment automation to ship frequent, low-risk releases.

What We’re Looking For (Required)

Candidates should demonstrate practical experience delivering backend APIs and services:

• Proven experience building and operating production APIs or backend services.
• Strong understanding of web protocols (HTTP, REST, JSON) and API design best practices.
• Experience with databases (relational and/or NoSQL) and data modeling for APIs.
• Solid software engineering fundamentals: testing, debugging, logging, and observability.
• Experience collaborating in cross-functional teams using agile practices.
• Clear technical communication skills and the ability to document APIs and services.

Nice to Have (Preferred)

The following will help you succeed and stand out:

• Experience with microservices architectures and service-to-service communication.
• Familiarity with API gateways, rate limiting, authentication/authorization (OAuth, JWT), and security best practices.
• Prior experience with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure) and managed services.
• Exposure to CI/CD tooling, containerization (Docker, Kubernetes), and infrastructure as code.
• Knowledge of performance tuning and distributed tracing tools.
