Software Engineer
The Software Engineer at Confidential Client is responsible for designing, developing, testing, and maintaining software applications that support national defense missions. This role involves full lifecycle software development, collaboration with cross-functional teams, adherence to strict security standards, and continuous improvement of software systems in a dynamic, on-site environment requiring Top Secret/SCI clearance with Full Scope Polygraph.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Confidential Client is seeking experienced software engineers to design, develop, test, and maintain software that supports defense and mission-critical systems. You will work across the full SDLC with cross-functional teams to deliver secure, reliable software.
- Design, implement, test, and maintain software applications and services based on customer requirements
- Participate in full SDLC: requirements, design, coding, unit/integration testing, deployment, and maintenance
- Write clean, maintainable, and well-documented code in one or more languages (see qualifications)
- Conduct and participate in code reviews and automated testing to ensure quality and security
- Integrate software with systems engineering, DevOps, and operations teams for deployment and scalability
- Recommend and implement performance, reliability, and security improvements
- Maintain technical documentation: design specs, runbooks, and system diagrams
- Support version control, release management, and CI/CD pipelines
- Follow security best practices and applicable compliance frameworks (NIST, DoD/IC guidance, RMF)
- Stay current with emerging frameworks, tools, and industry trends
Required Qualifications
Candidates should be able to demonstrate the following skills and experience:
- Strong programming skills in one or more: Java, C++, C#, Python, JavaScript, Go, Ruby, Scala
- Experience with frameworks and platforms such as Spring, .NET, Angular, React, Node.js, Bootstrap
- Proficiency with IDEs and tools (Eclipse, IntelliJ, Visual Studio, VS Code, PyCharm)
- Familiarity with Linux/Unix and Windows operating systems
- Experience with relational and NoSQL databases (Oracle, MySQL, PostgreSQL, MongoDB, SQL Server)
- Version control (Git, GitHub, GitLab, Bitbucket, SVN) and build/automation tools (Maven, Gradle, Jenkins, Bamboo)
- Experience with containerization and orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes, OpenShift)
- Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices
- Cloud experience (AWS, Azure, GCP) and cloud-native development familiarity
- Scripting and automation skills (Bash, PowerShell, Python)
- Strong problem-solving, communication, and collaboration skills
- Ability to work on-site with cross-functional teams in a mission-focused environment
Preferred Qualifications
- Certifications such as AWS Developer Associate, Microsoft Azure Developer, Security+, CKAD (Certified Kubernetes Application Developer)
- Prior experience on defense, intelligence, or other government programs preferred
- Experience applying NIST SP 800-series, DoD STIGs, RMF, or ICD 503 requirements in software development
Security & Eligibility
- Active Top Secret/SCI clearance with Full Scope Polygraph is required.
- U.S. Citizenship is required. Candidates must be able to meet and maintain clearance and program eligibility requirements.
Compensation & Benefits
