Overview
Confidential Client is seeking a Software Engineer, Android to join a small, fast-moving mobile engineering team in New York, NY. You’ll own end-to-end Android features in a native Kotlin codebase, help shape mobile architecture and reusable frameworks, and deliver a highly performant, user-focused mobile experience. This role is FULL_TIME and offers a salary range of $160,000–$200,000.
What You’ll Do
- Own delivery of Android features from system design through launch, working closely with product, design, and backend teams
- Build and maintain reusable mobile frameworks and UI components to increase engineering velocity and consistency
- Implement scalable, testable architecture (modularized Gradle modules, MVVM, unidirectional data flow)
- Improve app performance and user experience — profiling, reducing jank, and optimizing animations and rendering
- Contribute actively to code reviews, architecture discussions, and testing/monitoring practices
- Work with gRPC / Protobuf-based backend APIs (where applicable) and collaborate on end-to-end integrations
Qualifications
- 2+ years of native Android development experience using Kotlin
- Strong grasp of Android fundamentals: component lifecycles, dependency injection (Hilt), multi-threading, persistence, and Jetpack components (Compose, Material 3, Navigation, ViewModel, etc.)
- Comfortable working within a modularized app architecture (Gradle modules) and patterns like MVVM and unidirectional data flow
- Experience contributing to a team codebase with active code reviews and collaborative development practices
- Clear communicator with a product-minded approach and a genuine interest in improving users’ financial experiences (or consumer-facing mobile products)
Nice-to-Haves (Bonus Skills)
- Experience profiling and optimizing UI performance (smooth animations, reducing jank)
- Experience with gRPC and Protocol Buffers for networking
- Published apps on the Google Play Store and experience with release pipelines
- Experience migrating legacy XML/View code to Jetpack Compose
