Position overview
Confidential Client's Business Intelligence team runs the analytics infrastructure for a compensation benchmarking platform. This entry-level, full-time Software Engineer role focuses on maintaining and improving analytics infrastructure (Tableau, Snowflake, AWS), ensuring reliability, security, data quality, and a great developer experience. You'll own components of the system, contribute to operational runbooks and standards, and support engineers and non-engineering stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage infrastructure-as-code configurations and deployment automation on Amazon Web Services (AWS)
- Contribute to code reviews, technical documentation, and engineering standards for the Business Intelligence team
- Design, implement, and maintain automated validation and monitoring for data pipelines to enforce data quality
- Provide technical guidance, training, and issue resolution for end users of the compensation benchmarking platform
- Ensure reliability, performance, and security of cloud platform operations and optimization infrastructure on AWS
- Maintain network and systems infrastructure for the Milwaukee office and remote work environments
- Document system architecture, data models, and operational runbooks
Qualifications
Required
- 2+ years of professional experience in software engineering, data engineering, or a closely related technical discipline
- Strong proficiency and production experience with Tableau and Snowflake (or an equivalent analytics stack)
- Demonstrated curiosity about new tools and technologies and evidence of self-directed technical learning
- Strong attention to documentation, runbooks, and knowledge transfer in technical environments
- Proven ability to take ownership of technical systems and follow through independently
Preferred
- Familiarity with data warehousing concepts and columnar storage platforms
- Interest in data quality, data contracts, or observability as engineering practices
- Prior involvement in technology selection or architectural decision-making
- Experience with containerization and orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes)
What success looks like in year one
- Build familiarity with the business context to make better technical prioritization decisions
- Establish productive relationships with at least two non-engineering stakeholders who depend on the benchmarking platform
- Complete required security, compliance, and systems access certifications for the Business Intelligence team
- Integrate into an on-call rotation and demonstrate competent incident response
Interview process
