Role overview
Confidential Client is hiring a Software Engineer - Analyst to join an engineering team in Jersey City, NJ. This hybrid role (four days on-site, one day remote per week) focuses on designing, developing, testing, and maintaining backend services, web features, and data-driven applications. You will work with Java or Python-based systems, microservices, relational databases, and modern DevOps toolchains to deliver high-quality, scalable solutions for the financial services domain.
What you’ll do
- Gather and translate business and client requirements into technical specifications and product/sprint backlogs
- Design, implement, and maintain server-side applications, web services, and microservices aligned to business needs
- Write, review, and maintain clean, well-documented source code and technical documentation
- Participate in unit, integration, and system testing; develop and automate test scripts where possible
- Troubleshoot production issues, perform performance analysis and tuning, and ensure high availability and stability of solutions
- Integrate third-party services and APIs to extend application capabilities
- Work with product managers, designers, and cross-functional teams to deliver visually effective dashboards and data-analytic products
- Support CI/CD pipelines and collaborate in an Agile environment to deliver features on schedule
Required qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a closely related discipline, or equivalent experience
- Software development experience using one or more modern languages (Java, Python, C#, C++, etc.) with strong object-oriented design fundamentals
- Demonstrated experience with Core Java and Java frameworks (for example, Spring, JPA) or equivalent server-side frameworks in Python
- Experience with web technologies, RESTful services, and microservices architecture
- Experience writing and optimizing SQL against relational databases (Oracle, MS SQL Server, etc.)
- Familiarity with Unix/Linux environments and shell scripting
- Understanding of data structures, software design patterns, distributed systems, and multi-tiered architectures
- Comfortable working with Agile processes and common DevOps toolsets (Jira, Confluence, Jenkins, Bitbucket, Nexus, or equivalents)
- Strong analytical thinking, communication, and collaborative skills
Preferred skills
- Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS or Azure and container orchestration with Kubernetes
- Practical experience with Python for scripting, automation, or data processing
- Familiarity with open-source frameworks and libraries used in modern backend services
- Prior experience in financial services or regulated environments is a plus
- Knowledge of automated testing frameworks and performance benchmarking approaches
Compensation & benefits (summary)
- New York / New Jersey: $91,000 — $141,000 base salary (role location: Jersey City, NJ)
- Non–New York / New Jersey: $91,000 — $128,000 base salary (if located outside NY/NJ)
- Role may be eligible for discretionary performance-based bonus/incentive compensation

Work model, location, and visa
- Work model: Hybrid — four days per week on-site in Jersey City, NJ and one remote day per week
- Visa sponsorship/support is based on business needs. The client does not anticipate providing visa sponsorship for this position.
