Team Overview

Confidential Client is bringing general-purpose AI into the physical world. The Runtime team owns core systems that help engineering, research, and operations move quickly and reliably. This Software Engineer role sits on Runtime and focuses on AI tooling to make agents, assistants, integrations, and automation useful and trusted across the organization.

What You’ll Do

You will design, build, and drive adoption of internal AI tooling that increases velocity for engineers, researchers, and operations teams.

  • Own AI tooling adoption across the company: discover high-impact opportunities, deliver solutions, and ensure teams adopt them.
  • Build internal AI tools and integrations: backend services, scripts, workflows, UIs, LLM integrations, and agent infrastructure.
  • Make AI agents ergonomic: design cloud agent workflows, management surfaces, monitoring, and trustable automation.
  • Improve engineering and research velocity: create workflows that help engineers write, test, debug, review, and validate code faster; enable researchers to extract signals and iterate quickly.
  • Partner with operations and recruiting to build tools that provide leverage for non-engineering teams.
  • Create enablement and best-practice artifacts: playbooks, examples, onboarding flows, office hours, demos, and reusable patterns.
  • Collaborate on security and data access: ensure tools have suitable permissions, maintain data boundaries, and follow company policies.
  • Evaluate build vs. buy: monitor the AI tooling ecosystem and recommend when to adopt commercial products.
  • Measure impact: define success metrics for adoption, productivity, and satisfaction; use data and feedback to iterate.

Qualifications

  • Strong software engineering fundamentals with proven ability to ship quickly.
  • Deep interest in AI tooling and pragmatic opinions on how to use LLMs and agents safely and effectively.
  • Hands-on experience with modern LLM-based workflows and integrations.
  • Technical flexibility: comfortable building backend services, integrations, automation, and user interfaces.
  • Strong product judgment and a focus on developer experience and internal tooling UX.
  • High empathy and collaboration skills; able to partner with engineering, research, operations, and recruiting.
  • Quick learner who can operate across multiple technical domains.
  • Good judgment around security, permissions, and safe tool rollout.
  • Clear communicator, able to document, teach, and run enablement.
  • Comfortable driving adoption (not just delivering code).
  • Education: Bachelor's degree preferred.

Bonus Points

  • Experience building developer tools, agents, or automation platforms.
  • Experience building internal tools for research, robotics, or operationally-intensive teams.
  • Experience with React, TypeScript, Python, Postgres, ClickHouse, GCP, and Kubernetes.

Pursuant to the San Francisco Fair Chance Ordinance, Confidential Client will consider for employment qualified applicants with arrest and conviction records.
