What You’ll Do
As a Software Engineer (AI-Native), Database Engineering with our confidential client in Menlo Park, CA, you'll bring an AI-first approach to designing, building, and operating core database features. You will ship end-to-end solutions that improve developer productivity and customer outcomes by integrating AI-driven engineering practices into the software lifecycle.
- Own features end-to-end for database engineering products — design, implement, test, deploy, and operate in production.
- Design and build reliable, scalable systems for complex database and data platform workloads with a focus on performance, correctness, and observability.
- Lead adoption of AI-native development practices (coding agents, automated verification, continuous benchmarking) to increase engineering velocity and software quality.
- Translate product and customer needs into robust, production-ready capabilities in partnership with product and infrastructure teams.
- Measure and iterate on production behavior; use metrics and benchmarking to drive decisions and improvements.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Statistics, or a related field (Master’s or higher preferred but not required).
- Minimum 2 years of professional software engineering experience building and operating production systems.
- Solid distributed systems fundamentals (distributed execution, storage systems, concurrency, fault tolerance, performance optimization, or large-scale data processing).
- Hands-on experience using AI coding agents across the software development lifecycle, with an understanding of model strengths and failure modes.
- Proficiency in one or more of: C++, Java, Go, Rust, or Python.
- Strong collaboration and written/verbal communication skills across engineering and product teams.
Preferred Qualifications
- Power user of modern coding agents who systematically measures effectiveness, identifies failure modes, and improves agent-driven workflows.
- Familiarity with database internals such as query compilation/optimization, execution engines, semantic layers, or large-scale storage and retrieval systems.
- Experience creating observable, measurable systems and driving improvements from production telemetry.
Compensation & Benefits
- The estimated base salary range for this role is $160,000 - $230,000.
- This role is also eligible to participate in bonus and equity programs.

Specific benefits will depend on the employing confidential client and the candidate’s location.
- The final starting salary will be determined based on permissible, non-discriminatory factors such as skills, experience, and geographic location.
Location & Work Authorization
- This position is based in Menlo Park, CA. Candidates must be authorized to work in the United States. If relocation or remote work is considered, eligibility and details will be discussed during the hiring process.
