Role Overview

This contract role is an opportunity to help design and build agentic AI systems used inside a financial institution. You’ll combine strong software engineering with hands-on AI work to create intelligent agents that reason, use tools, interact with systems, and automate complex workflows.

• Location: Clayton, MO (onsite)

What You’ll Do

• Design and implement AI-powered applications and agent workflows using Python and TypeScript.
• Build backend services and APIs with Node.js and modern frameworks.
• Prototype ideas, translate business needs into technical requirements, and iterate quickly.
• Explore how AI agents can access data, call tools, coordinate tasks, and automate workflows.
• Evaluate and integrate LLMs, SDKs, and cloud AI services (potentially including OpenAI technologies).
• Containerize applications and operate them with Docker and Kubernetes.
• Use Terraform and infrastructure-as-code to create repeatable, scalable environments.
• Collaborate with stakeholders across engineering and business to bring prototypes into production.
• Help establish best practices for testing, reliability, security, and responsible AI implementation.
• Stay current on agentic AI, LLM integrations, RAG, and AI engineering best practices.

Qualifications (Required)

• 1–2+ years of professional software development experience with a solid engineering foundation.
• Hands-on experience with Python and TypeScript.
• Experience building backend services or APIs using Node.js.
• Strong interest and demonstrable curiosity in AI, LLMs, AI agents, and intelligent automation.
• Familiarity or experience with Docker, Kubernetes, and infrastructure-as-code (Terraform).
• Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to turn loosely defined ideas into working software.
• Clear communication skills and comfort working closely with both technical and business stakeholders.

Nice-to-Have

• Experience with agent frameworks, tool calling, retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), or LLM integrations.
• Prior work integrating cloud AI services or OpenAI SDKs.
• Experience in financial services or regulated industries.
• Background in building production systems that balance reliability, security, and responsible AI controls.

Compensation & Work Arrangement

• Base pay range (posted by our client): USD 50,000–70,000 per year (contract-equivalent range disclosed by the source).
