What You’ll Do

Confidential Client is seeking a seasoned backend Software Engineer to design, build, and maintain scalable server-side systems. In this role you will:

  • Design and implement backend services and RESTful APIs using Java and JVM technologies
  • Build maintainable, testable, and well-documented code (participate in code reviews)
  • Apply Spring / Spring Boot and appropriate frameworks to solve backend problems
  • Work with ORM tools (e.g., Hibernate) and design relational schemas; contribute to NoSQL solutions where applicable
  • Debug and profile applications in Linux/RHEL environments and support production troubleshooting
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define APIs, service boundaries, and technical roadmaps
  • Contribute to CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, and deployment processes
  • Participate in Agile development practices and sprint planning
  • Help make architecture and design decisions that prioritize scalability, performance, and maintainability

Required Qualifications

  • Active TS/SCI clearance with polygraph (required)
  • Minimum 7+ years professional experience developing backend systems in Java and JVM languages
  • Note: Contract-specific requirement — Fourteen (14) years’ experience as a software engineer on programs/contracts of similar scope, type, and complexity is required (per contract). Please ensure you meet this program-level experience requirement before applying.
  • Strong proficiency with core Java and JVM concepts
  • Practical experience building RESTful APIs and backend services using Spring / Spring Boot
  • Experience with ORM frameworks such as Hibernate
  • Strong understanding of relational databases and schema design; familiarity with NoSQL/datastore patterns is a plus
  • Comfortable working in Linux/Unix (e.g., RHEL) and using Git for version control
  • Excellent debugging, problem-solving, and communication skills
  • Experience working in Agile development environments

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience making architectural decisions and guiding technical direction for backend systems
  • Familiarity with CI/CD toolchains (Atlassian tools, GitLab CI, or similar)
  • Background in automated testing, TDD, or similar practices
  • Experience with document stores (MongoDB), search platforms (Elasticsearch), or other NoSQL datastores
  • Exposure to containerization (Docker) and orchestration (Kubernetes)
  • Familiarity with AWS and infrastructure-as-code tools (Terraform, Ansible)
  • Scripting proficiency (Python, Bash, PowerShell)
  • Some frontend exposure (React/Angular) is a plus but not required
  • Experience in DevOps or related roles and operating in high-complexity, fast-paced client environments
