About the Role

Confidential Client is seeking a motivated SDE1 Back-End Engineer to help build and modernize a next-generation Practice Management platform. This role focuses on designing and implementing robust, scalable services and contributing to core backend components that support product features and operational reliability. You will work closely with product managers, designers, and engineers on a collaborative team that values quality, iteration, and continuous improvement.

What You’ll Do

• Design, develop, test, and deploy scalable, maintainable backend applications using Java, Spring Boot, and cloud technologies.
• Build and maintain critical services and APIs that serve as foundational building blocks for product functionality.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams (product, design, QA) to translate requirements into technical solutions and influence technical direction.
• Conduct and participate in thorough code reviews to ensure clean, maintainable, and efficient code.
• Apply performance, scalability, and reliability best practices to production systems.
• Participate in Agile ceremonies: sprint planning, daily standups, retrospectives, and backlog grooming.
• Research and apply emerging technologies and engineering best practices to improve the stack and delivery processes.
• Use AI-assisted tools responsibly to support development, testing, and code quality.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field (or equivalent practical experience).
• 1+ years of professional software development experience.
• Strong understanding of object-oriented programming, data structures, and algorithms.
• Practical experience with Java; familiarity with Spring or Spring Boot preferred.
• Experience with version control (Git) and relational databases.
• Solid problem-solving skills with an emphasis on performance and scalability.
• Clear written and verbal communication skills; able to explain technical concepts to diverse audiences.
• A collaborative mindset and willingness to learn and iterate quickly.

Compensation & Benefits

• Zone 1 (National Average) base salary range: $80,500 USD - $86,900 USD (listed per source posting).
• Final compensation is determined by experience, role requirements, and geographic zone. The Confidential Client uses geo-zones to ensure competitive pay across regions.
• Eligible employees may receive variable pay and a comprehensive benefits package (medical, retirement, wellness resources, and other perks).
• Specific compensation details that apply to California locations will be shared during the initial talent screen in compliance with state pay transparency requirements.
