Responsibilities
This entry-level Software Engineer role supports product development on agile teams. Work with engineers, product managers, and QA to deliver customer-facing features, resolve defects, and grow your technical skills.
- Design, implement, test, and maintain software features under the guidance of experienced engineers
- Deliver on user stories, product enhancements, and defect fixes as part of an agile sprint
- Write clean, maintainable, and well-tested code that follows established engineering standards
- Participate in code reviews and apply feedback to improve code quality
- Investigate defects, identify root causes, and implement fixes
- Learn the application architecture and integrate changes safely with the broader codebase
Technical Areas
Depending on team assignment and product needs, you may contribute in one or more areas:
- Full-stack development (TypeScript/JavaScript, React, Java, Node.js)
- Front-end UI and component work for responsive, accessible experiences
- Back-end services, APIs, and business logic focused on reliability and performance
- Database design and queries for relational and NoSQL systems
- Projects involving AI or machine learning (NLP, LLMs) where applicable
Engineering Practices
- Participate across the software development lifecycle: requirements, design, implementation, testing, deployment
- Use source control, CI/CD, automated tests, and issue tracking as part of team workflows
- Create unit and integration tests to reduce regressions
- Apply secure, scalable, and maintainable engineering practices
- Use modern tools — including AI-assisted development tools when appropriate — while maintaining engineering accountability
Collaboration & Growth
- Collaborate with engineers, QA, product managers, and stakeholders
- Ask questions, seek feedback, and communicate technical progress and risks
- Work with a mentor and engineering manager to set goals and build technical depth
- Take increasing ownership of features from implementation through delivery
- Contribute to design reviews, sprint planning, and a collaborative engineering culture
Qualifications
Required
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, or equivalent practical experience
- Foundational knowledge of data structures, algorithms, object-oriented programming, and software design
- Programming experience from coursework, internships, projects, or professional work
- Experience with at least one modern language (Java, JavaScript, TypeScript, Python, C++, etc.)
- Understanding of web application concepts, APIs, databases, and client/server architecture
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Effective written and verbal communication
- Ability and willingness to learn unfamiliar technologies and work within a large codebase
- Proven ability to work collaboratively on a software development team
Preferred
- Java and Java-based server-side development
- JavaScript/TypeScript and modern front-end frameworks (React, Angular)
- Node.js, HTML, CSS, SQL, NoSQL databases, REST APIs
- Git, Bitbucket, Jira, Jenkins or other CI/CD tools
- Unit testing frameworks (JUnit, etc.)
- Cloud and container technologies
- Familiarity with NLP, ML or Large Language Models and AI-assisted development tools

- Become proficient with the codebase, tools, and product architecture
- Successfully complete well-defined engineering tasks with guidance
- Independently investigate and resolve defects
- Consistently deliver maintainable, tested code and incorporate feedback
- Communicate clearly about requirements, technical decisions, and risks
- Progress toward ownership of features and toward a Software Engineer II level
Work Environment & Location
This role operates in a collaborative product engineering environment. Teams may be remote, hybrid, or require regular collaboration from the confidential client’s Campbell, CA office. Specific in-office expectations are determined by team needs.
Compensation (California pay-transparency)
- Estimated: $111,883 per year (estimated figure shown in source). Final compensation will be based on experience, skills, and applicable laws.
