What You’ll Do

Confidential Client is hiring early-career Software Development Engineer I candidates to join a team that develops software across the full stack for custom silicon and infrastructure. In this role you will contribute to production systems, work closely with hardware and compiler teams, and ship software that runs on specialized processors and accelerators.

• Design, implement, test, and maintain software across the stack — from low-level systems code and device drivers to compilers, runtimes, and developer tooling
• Write efficient, maintainable code in languages such as C, C++, Java, or Python
• Optimize software performance on custom hardware and identify bottlenecks across the hardware–software boundary
• Debug complex interactions between hardware, firmware, compilers, and runtime systems
• Collaborate across cross-functional teams (hardware, compilers, systems, ML-framework teams) to deliver features end-to-end
• Document your work and present results to technical stakeholders

Basic Qualifications

Applicants must be currently enrolled in or completing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree program with an expected graduation date of May 2027 or later.

• Programming experience in at least one modern language (C, C++, Java, or Python)
• Coursework or projects demonstrating knowledge of data structures, algorithms, and software design
• Understanding of core computer science fundamentals (operating systems, computer architecture, or systems programming)

Preferred Qualifications

• Degree focus or coursework in systems, compilers, computer architecture, or high-performance computing
• Experience with low-level or systems programming in C/C++ (memory management, concurrency, performance tuning)
• Familiarity with compilers or compiler toolchains (e.g., MLIR, LLVM), ML runtimes, OS internals, or distributed systems
• Exposure to machine learning frameworks and how models run on hardware
• Prior internship, research, or open-source contributions in systems, compilers, or ML infrastructure

Compensation & Benefits (New York, NY)

• Starting pay for Manhattan, NY: USD 141,600 per year (listed starting pay)
