What You’ll Do

Confidential Client is seeking a software engineer to design, build, test, and maintain Java-based systems used for situational awareness, data fusion, and geospatial data management. The team delivers software for secure federal and defense environments and is expanding capabilities for edge deployment.

• Design and implement enterprise Java applications for command & control, geospatial data management, exploitation, visualization, and analysis.
• Research and prototype new processing concepts for situational awareness and battlefield optimization.
• Extend and deploy capabilities to customer facilities and cloud-hosted environments (AWS), and help push compute/storage to edge systems.
• Containerize applications and run them in Kubernetes; support helm / helmfile deployments.
• Write automated tests, test frameworks, and CI artifacts to ensure reliable, production-quality releases.
• Troubleshoot and debug complex, deployed systems in varied customer environments (on-prem and cloud).
• Communicate technical designs and status with customers, program managers, and cross-functional engineering teams in secure settings.
• Follow strict information-handling and operational security procedures.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related discipline, or equivalent experience.
• Typically 2+ years of progressive software development experience (with a bachelor’s degree); equivalent practical experience may substitute.
• Production experience developing Java applications and services.
• Familiarity with containerization (Docker) and orchestration (Kubernetes).
• Experience with cloud-hosted environments (AWS).
• Comfortable working on Linux-based development and deployment platforms.
• Knowledge of software engineering best practices: source control, issue tracking, documentation, and Agile workflows.
• Strong foundation in mathematics, computer networking, communication protocols, and data exchange formats.
• Strong troubleshooting skills for complex, novel system setups.

Preferred / Nice-to-have

• Experience with helm and helmfile for Kubernetes deployments.
• Background in geospatial data processing, tracking, or data fusion.
• Experience moving workloads toward edge compute/storage architectures.
• Familiarity with CI/CD tooling and automated testing at scale.
• Experience in secure or classified environments.

Logistics & Compensation

• Employment type: Full-Time, Onsite.
• Location: Newcomb Hall, VA (on-site primary footprint).
• Travel: Approximately 25%–50% required.
• Relocation assistance: Provided.
• U.S. Citizenship required.
• Clearance: Top Secret (current SCI access with CI Poly preferred/required as noted).
• Salary range: $84,000 — $140,625 per year.
