Simulation and Validation Software Engineer
The Simulation and Validation Software Engineer at Confidential Client is responsible for developing automated test suites and simulation integrations to validate firmware, controls, and runtime behavior of robotic systems. This role ensures reliability by bridging simulation and real-world hardware testing, collaborating closely with cross-functional teams to drive validation and maintain robust test infrastructure in an industrial robotics environment.

About the Role
Confidential Client (a leader in Robotics Engineering) is hiring a Simulation and Validation Software Engineer in Palo Alto, CA. In this role you will build and maintain the simulation and validation pipelines that ensure firmware, controls, and runtime software behave reliably — not just once on a bench, but repeatedly in the field. You will enable faster development cycles by creating repeatable, automated tests that stand in for physical hardware and help teams find and fix issues earlier.
What You’ll Do
- Design and implement automated test suites to validate firmware, controls, and runtime behavior across software-in-the-loop (SIL) and simulation-based environments.
- Integrate simulation inputs and dynamic models (including simulated camera or sensor feeds) so runtime and middleware teams can develop without access to physical hardware.
- Build and own regression-test infrastructure, result-analysis tooling, failure triage workflows, and coverage tracking across firmware, controls, runtime, and hardware.
- Work closely with firmware, controls, and runtime engineers to convert real-world failures into repeatable automated test cases.
- Drive validation burn-down during integration and assembly milestones; track issues to closure and communicate test status across teams.
What We’re Looking For
- Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent practical experience with demonstrable impact.
- Strong software engineering fundamentals and production experience writing readable, testable code.
- Fluency in Python and comfort using C/C++ or Rust when debugging at the firmware/embedded level.
- Demonstrated experience building validation, simulation, or test infrastructure for real physical systems (robotics, actuators, motors, or similar).
- Proven ability to work in ambiguous environments, move quickly with high quality, and a strong "engineering curiosity" for end-to-end system behavior.
Nice to Have
- Experience with robotics middleware or runtime systems (ROS2 or similar).
- Familiarity with simulation and dynamic modeling tools (MuJoCo, Gazebo, MATLAB/Simulink, or equivalent).
- Knowledge of functional safety standards and safety validation processes (IEC 61508, ISO 13849, ISO 26262, etc.).
- Experience with embedded lab equipment and debugging tools (oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, JTAG/SWD).
- Familiarity with agent-assisted coding or test-generation tools to accelerate development.
Location & Work Arrangement
- Location: Palo Alto, CA (on-site at Confidential Client facilities — candidates should be able to work from Palo Alto as required).
Recruiter Note
Strong candidates highlight past projects that show: end-to-end validation pipelines, simulation-in-the-loop (SIL) testing, automated regression infrastructure, and close collaboration with firmware or controls teams. Include concrete examples, test metrics, or links to relevant repositories where possible.
