What You’ll Do
This entry‑level Shift Fueling Engineer will support new construction nuclear operations work for submarines at our Confidential Client shipyard in Groton, CT. You will qualify as a Shift Fueling Engineer (SFE) per the New Construction Nuclear Reactor Servicing Manual (NRSM) and lead and execute nuclear evolutions that support delivery to the Navy.
Daily responsibilities include:
- Lead and coordinate trade and engineering teams during fueling, reactor preparation, RPM (reactor plant module) moves and reactor compartment end-load operations
- Plan, prepare and execute procedures for installation/removal of hydrostatic test equipment and reactor installation
- Support equipment maintenance, testing and certification related to nuclear evolutions
- Develop and review procedures, technical briefings, and run team dry‑run qualifications
- Conduct trade training sessions and present operations briefings to stakeholders
- Interface with nuclear and non‑nuclear engineering groups, shipyard operations, vendors, trades and local regulators
- Maintain accurate technical documentation and technical writing deliverables

- Estimated pay: $58,992 per year (estimated). Pay shown is provided by the source and may be used to satisfy pay transparency requirements where applicable.
Minimum Qualifications (Required)
- Bachelor of Science degree in an Engineering discipline
- 0–5 years of related post‑graduate engineering experience
- Ability to obtain and maintain a Secret‑level DoD security clearance
- Strong written and verbal communication skills; comfortable presenting to teams and stakeholders
- Comfortable working to written procedures and leading trades in the field
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior qualification as an SFE at a shipyard or similar nuclear operations environment
- Experience with lifting and handling operations, rigging, and heavy equipment moves
- Basic knowledge of reactor plant systems and components
- Demonstrated team leadership, technical writing, and presentation experience
Physical & Environmental Requirements
- Activities: climbing, crawling, kneeling, light lifting, reaching, twisting
- Environments: cold, hot, noisy, inside and outside, wet conditions
- Must be able to work on-ship and in shipyard environments and adhere to site safety procedures
