Role Overview

Confidential Client is hiring a Senior Software Engineer (End Effector) on a contract basis in Salt Lake City, UT. This role focuses on robotics and industrial automation software—integrating hardware peripherals and industrial communication protocols into robust, real-world systems.


Responsibilities

  • Design and implement C++ software for hardware/firmware interfacing and protocol parsing.
  • Integrate industrial communications and devices (EtherNet/IP, Modbus TCP/RTU, IO‑Link, serial interfaces).
  • Work with COTS device integrations (IODD usage, vendor SDKs, serial/Ethernet bridges).
  • Troubleshoot and debug using oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, Wireshark and other diagnostic tools.
  • Develop and optimize real‑time and multithreaded software components.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to validate hardware/software integration in field-like conditions.
  • Produce clear technical documentation and support integration testing.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field is required.
  • Proven C++ development experience targeting hardware/firmware integration and protocol parsing.
  • Hands-on experience with industrial comms: EtherNet/IP, Modbus (TCP/RTU), IO‑Link, and serial protocols.
  • Experience integrating vendor SDKs and working with IODD/COTS industrial devices.
  • Strong debugging skills with oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and packet tools (e.g., Wireshark).
  • Solid understanding of real‑time/threading fundamentals and deterministic system behavior.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively with engineering and field teams.

Preferred (but not required):

  • Background in robotics, automation, or industrial control systems.
  • Prior experience with firmware-level constraints and embedded toolchains.

Compensation & Employment Type

  • Employment type: CONTRACTOR
  • Pay range: $60.00 — $73.50 per hour (USD). This is the employer’s reasonable in‑good‑faith estimate for this role at the time of posting. Final pay offered may vary depending on factors such as experience, education, certifications, and location.
