Role Overview
Confidential Client is seeking a Senior Backend Software Engineer for a contract engagement. This is a fully remote (work-from-anywhere) role focused on designing, building, and operating scalable, high-performance backend systems. The engagement is hourly contract work with a competitive pay range.
What You’ll Do
- Design, implement, and optimize backend systems with emphasis on scalability, reliability, and performance
- Lead development of new features and enhancements for existing platforms
- Mentor and coach junior engineers through code reviews, design discussions, and technical guidance
- Diagnose and troubleshoot complex production issues; deliver robust fixes in a timely manner
- Participate in architecture and system-design discussions, and evaluate technology choices
- Contribute to CI/CD, observability, and DevOps best practices
Required Qualifications
- 5+ years of professional software engineering experience building backend services
- Proficiency in one or more backend languages such as Python, Java, or Go
- Hands-on experience with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, or Azure) and containerization (Docker, Kubernetes)
- Strong understanding of data structures, algorithms, and system design principles
- Experience with automated testing, CI/CD pipelines, and Git-based workflows
- Familiarity with production observability: logging, metrics, tracing
- Experience working in Agile/Scrum teams and strong collaboration skills
- Strong verbal and written communication; ability to mentor teammates
Compensation & Logistics
- Employment type: Contract
- Rate: $245 - $280 per hour (USD)
- Location: Remote — candidates may work from anywhere (U.S. candidates preferred)
- Duration: Contract length to be confirmed with the hiring team
