What You’ll Do

Confidential Client is hiring a Security Operations Center (SOC) Analyst to join a mission-focused IT team supporting government and national-security operations at Fort Myer, VA. This is an operational role within a 24/7 Network Operations / Security Operations Center (NOSC/SOC) environment.

  • Monitor devices and applications across program networks using dashboards and SIEM toolsets.
  • Perform event triage, incident detection, and incident management following established processes.
  • Analyze network and security events; escalate and document incidents per procedures.
  • Use log collection, analytics, and alerting tools to validate detections and reduce false positives.
  • Coordinate containment, eradication, and recovery activities with stakeholders during incidents.
  • Conduct backup and recovery procedures and report outages following SLAs.
  • Provide limited mobile device support (e.g., SIM activation/deactivation) as needed.
  • Perform other NOSC-assigned tasks and participate in shift rotations required by a 24/7 operation.

Qualifications

  • Minimum: High school diploma or GED with 4+ years relevant experience, OR Associate degree + 2+ years relevant experience, OR Bachelor’s degree.
  • 2+ years of hands-on SOC / network security experience preferred.
  • DoD IAT Level II certification required.
  • Active DoD Top Secret clearance with SCI eligibility required.
  • Must successfully pass background and drug screening.
  • Must be authorized to work in the U.S.; local presence in Fort Myer, VA preferred for onsite shifts.

Skills & Tools

Experience with a mix of the following (you don’t need every item but you should have real-world SOC experience):

  • SIEM and analytics: Splunk (or similar), XSOAR
  • Packet and host analysis: Wireshark, tcpdump, NetWitness
  • Endpoint and EDR: Carbon Black / Bit9, Microsoft Defender
  • Network/security devices: Palo Alto, Cisco ASA, F5, IronPort
  • IDS/IPS and NDR: Snort, ExtraHop, OpenText NDR, StealthWatch
  • Vulnerability and scanning: Nessus
  • Email/web security and protective tech: EMET, McAfee ePO
  • Familiarity with cyber threat analysis, indicators of compromise (IOCs), and containment workflows
  • Comfortable working in a 24/7 shift-based NOSC supporting commercial or government clients

Compensation

  • Estimated pay: USD $52.29/hr – USD $58.96/hr (source estimate). Pay may vary based on experience and qualifications. Final pay decisions follow state and federal employment laws.
