Overview
Confidential Client (Healthcare & Nursing) is hiring for a Security Officer I to provide visible security presence and protection for patients, visitors, staff and property at a medical facility in Detroit, MI. This role combines patrol, access control, public assistance and incident reporting in a fast-paced healthcare environment.
What You’ll Do
- Present a visible security presence to deter criminal activity and ensure the safety of patients, visitors and staff.
- Patrol assigned areas (interior and exterior), monitor for hazards, and take appropriate action to address safety or security incidents.
- Provide access control — check badges, verify identification, and control entry to clinical and business areas.
- Inspect packages entering or leaving the facility and report suspicious items or activity.
- Assist patients, visitors and employees with directions, escorts, vehicle or room lockouts, and other public service duties.
- Investigate complaints related to parking, safety, disorderly or suspicious persons; prepare accurate incident and investigation reports.
- Monitor security and fire systems (alarms, cameras, gates) and answer telephones to provide information as needed.
- Respond to emergency codes in accordance with hospital and Security Department procedures.
- Participate in ongoing training (first aid, defensive tactics, criminal law topics) and promote a collaborative, patient-centered culture.
Minimum Qualifications
- Option 1: High school diploma or equivalent AND four (4) years of experience in security and/or public law enforcement or military police.
- Option 2: Minimum of two years of college coursework in criminal justice, security administration or related area AND three (3) years of experience in security and/or public law enforcement or military police.
- Option 3: Completion of a State of Michigan MCOLES-certified police academy AND three (3) years of experience in security and/or public law enforcement or military police.
- Option 4: Bachelor’s degree in criminal justice, security administration or related area plus relevant internship/volunteer experience (e.g., police reserve).
- Valid State of Michigan driver’s license and eligibility for coverage under the facility’s vehicle insurance policy.
Facility & Work Environment
Confidential Client’s Detroit receiving facility operates a high-volume emergency and specialty services environment (Level I Trauma center, burn center, stroke and geriatric programs). You will work on-site in patient-care and public areas and may be required to patrol parking decks and direct traffic as needed.
Compensation & Benefits
- Estimated pay: $66,770 per year (estimated).
