What You’ll Do

Confidential Client is seeking an entry-level Security Analyst to join a state agency security team onsite in Blythewood, SC. This is a 12-month, full-time assignment with weekend shifts and focused training. The role emphasizes monitoring, detection, triage, and documentation; the DMV security team will provide training to build on basic server/network administration skills.

Primary responsibilities include:

  • Conduct threat intelligence research and use OSINT tools to monitor emerging threats.
  • Perform threat hunting and help create detection rules (SIEM queries, Defender for Endpoint rules).
  • Analyze logs from firewalls, endpoints, and servers to identify potential indicators of compromise (IOCs).
  • Assist in initial incident triage using established frameworks (e.g., NIST, MITRE ATT&CK), escalate findings, and support containment and remediation.
  • Maintain documentation: incident reports, after-action reviews, playbooks, and training materials.
  • Support vulnerability management: analyze reports, prioritize patching, and follow NIST best practices.
  • Use SCCM, Group Policy, and PowerShell to assist with patching and endpoint management; automate routine tasks where possible.
  • Support endpoint and network security configuration and monitoring; participate in digital forensics investigations as needed.
  • Help deliver security awareness training and simulate exercises to assess employee readiness.

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum: High school diploma or equivalent.
  • 1+ year experience in server or network administration OR 1+ year in an IT security-focused role (preferred).
  • Understanding of core security concepts and basic computer/network fundamentals.
  • Ability to analyze data, identify anomalies, and document findings clearly.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to work collaboratively on a mid-sized team.

Preferred Skills & Tools

  • Experience with SIEM platforms and endpoint security tools (e.g., Microsoft Defender for Endpoint).
  • Familiarity with PowerShell, SCCM, and Group Policy.
  • Knowledge of vulnerability management and cloud security concepts.
  • Exposure to threat hunting, log analysis, or digital forensics workflows.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Cybersecurity, or a related field is a plus.

Certifications (not required but prioritized)

  • GIAC Security Essentials (GSEC)
  • CompTIA Security+
  • CompTIA Network+
  • GIAC Incident Handler (GCIH)

Work Location & Eligibility

  • Work Location: Fully onsite in Blythewood, SC (no hybrid or remote flexibility).
  • Candidate Eligibility: Candidate must be a CURRENT South Carolina resident. No relocation assistance provided.
