Position overview
Confidential Client is seeking a Safety Engineer II to support safety, health, and environmental programs for manufacturing, test, and laboratory operations in Mount Vernon, MS. This full-time role is remote-eligible (telecommute) with on-site responsibilities as required. Travel is typically 0%–25%. U.S. citizenship is required for this position.
What You’ll Do
Under general supervision, you will support a complex manufacturing environment by identifying hazards, driving corrective actions, and building effective safety programs.
- Proactively identify, analyze, and document accidental loss and high-hazard conditions in manufacturing, test, and lab environments.
- Evaluate chemical handling, storage, and processing controls (solvents, oils, energetic materials).
- Assess electrical systems and high-voltage test setups for safety risks.
- Review chemical process operations, reaction chemistry considerations, transfer and storage of hazardous chemicals, segregation of incompatible materials, and controls for mixing/heating/pressurized systems.
- Lead independent safety investigations, perform root cause analysis, and drive corrective/preventive actions to closure.
- Develop and deliver targeted safety training for departments and work areas (ergonomics, hazardous materials/hazard communication, material handling and lifting, CPR/First Aid/AED, PPE selection and use, emergency procedures including chemical spills and fire).
- Support development and continuous improvement of Employee Health & Safety programs; draft and maintain site safety manuals, procedures, and work instructions.
- Coordinate and participate in regulatory inspections; prepare reports and complete required federal and state reporting.
- Serve as a safety liaison to remote facilities to ensure consistent application of safety policies and programs.
- Engage with supervisors, engineers, technicians, and operators to reinforce safe work practices and promote a safety culture.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in industrial hygiene, occupational safety, safety engineering, or a related technical field preferred. Additional professional experience may be substituted for education.
- Typically 0–2 years of progressively complex safety experience required (Entry-Level).
- Demonstrated understanding of industrial hygiene and/or occupational safety principles, regulations, and practices.
- Experience with OSHA standards and federal/state reporting requirements.
- Strong analytical skills for evaluating regulatory requirements and conducting root cause analysis.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills; experience preparing reports and delivering training to varied audiences.
- Strong presentation and interpersonal skills to interact across all levels of the organization.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive information.
- Strong computer skills and the ability to work independently and in teams.
- Willingness to travel regionally as required (0%–25%).
- U.S. Citizenship required.
Compensation & Benefits
- Pay range (posted): $62,460 — $105,533 per year (estimated). This range is provided in compliance with pay-transparency best practices.
