Overview
Confidential Client is hiring a Safety Engineer (Data Center Construction) to support data center construction projects based in Omaha, NE. This role implements project-level safety programs, enforces safe work practices, investigates incidents, and partners with trade partners and client safety teams to maintain a Zero Injury environment. Opportunities are available at two levels (Safety Engineer I and II); candidates should apply for the level that matches their experience.
What You’ll Do
- Implement and administer the project safety program and Mortenson-aligned Zero Injury practices at the worksite
- Conduct safety orientations, toolbox talks, and on-site training for construction teams and subcontractors
- Perform routine safety audits, inspections, and hazard analyses; document and track findings and corrective actions
- Manage OSHA reporting and support incident investigations and root-cause analysis
- Review safety submittals and trade partner work plans; evaluate industrial-hygiene concerns and PPE needs
- Coordinate with client safety personnel, union reps, insurance/risk engineers, and regulatory inspectors during site tours
- Maintain safety equipment, manage the site PPE inventory and safety budget, and support onsite injury management
- Serve as a visible safety resource: chair/attend safety meetings, present findings, and promote positive safety culture
- Build effective working relationships across diverse teams and organizational levels
Qualifications
Minimum qualifications (apply to both levels unless noted):
- Bachelor’s or associate degree in occupational safety, health, or related field preferred
OR High school diploma with CHST or STS certification, OSHA 30 Hour training, and a minimum of five years of construction experience - Safety Engineer II: minimum one year of related experience
- Current driver’s license and ability to travel up to 100% as required by project assignments
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and common safety/incident tracking software
- Strong communication, presentation, leadership, and problem-solving skills; effective public speaking
- Detail-oriented with the ability to manage multiple tasks and projects
- Positive, professional customer-service mindset; openness to feedback and diverse input
- Previous construction-site internship or related experience is a plus
Compensation & Benefits
Base pay ranges (annual, position-level specific):
- Safety Engineer I: $78,800 – $98,500 USD
- Safety Engineer II: $81,800 – $110,400 USD
Base pay is positioned within the range based on skills, experience, and internal equity. This position may be eligible for incentive programs.
