Role overview

Confidential Client is developing X‑Caddie, an autonomous mobile energy‑storage and EV‑charging robot. We’re hiring a Robotics Software Engineer to design, implement, and optimize autonomy software for an on‑site, safety‑critical AMR operating around pedestrians, vehicles, and dynamic obstacles. This is a full‑time, on‑site role in Saratoga, CA with occasional travel to local test sites.

What you will do

  • Collaborate with robotics, controls, embedded‑software, and hardware teams to add capabilities to the autonomy stack while respecting the independent safety layer.
  • Validate algorithms in simulation and on hardware; analyze performance and iterate quickly.
  • Write and maintain production‑quality code in C++ and/or Python within a ROS2‑based system.
  • Work toward robust, safe operation in semi‑structured environments (parking lots, campuses) and contribute to safety architecture and certification efforts.
  • Own features from prototype to deployment and support fleet validation and tuning.

Areas of focus (pick one or more)

  • Perception: camera + LiDAR object detection, classification, semantic segmentation, multi‑object tracking, anomaly detection tuned for low‑speed, pedestrian‑rich settings.
  • Localization & state estimation: multi‑sensor fusion (LiDAR, IMU, wheel odometry), drift detection, and robust pose estimation in feature‑sparse parking structures.
  • Motion planning & navigation: global/local planning, decision making, recovery behaviors (ROS2 / Nav2).
  • Precision docking: high‑accuracy alignment for automated charging robust to real‑world variation.
  • Performance & GPU optimization: optimize perception and robotics pipelines (including custom CUDA kernels) for Jetson‑class hardware.
  • Tuning, configuration & validation: design simulation scenarios, tune parameters (safety distances, speed limits, cost weights), and validate against ground truth on hardware.
  • ML infrastructure: data collection, model training/evaluation, and fleet‑scale monitoring pipelines.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s, Master’s, or PhD in Robotics, Computer Science, EE/ME, AI/ML, or related field — or equivalent hands‑on experience. Depth of practical autonomous‑systems work is valued over degree title.
  • Strong foundation in robotics algorithms: sensor fusion, state estimation, perception, and planning.
  • High proficiency in C++ and Python; experience writing performance‑sensitive, real‑time code.
  • Experience with ROS2 (and Nav2) strongly preferred.
  • Experience optimizing for embedded GPUs (NVIDIA Jetson), CUDA kernel development and profiling is a strong plus.
  • Familiarity with deep‑learning frameworks (PyTorch, TensorFlow) for perception‑oriented roles.
  • Comfortable working cross‑functionally in a fast‑paced environment and driving solutions from prototype to deployed hardware.
  • Employment is contingent on verification of eligibility to work in the United States.

Compensation & benefits

  • Base pay: $110,000 to $180,000 per year. Pay may vary based on job‑related knowledge, skills, and experience. (This posting complies with California pay transparency requirements.)
  • Benefits include Health, Dental & Vision insurance, Paid Time Off (PTO), and paid public holidays.
  • Opportunity to work on a high‑impact product in the renewable energy / mobile charging space with a strong engineering culture.

Location & logistics

  • This is a full‑time, on‑site position based in Saratoga, CA. Occasional travel to local test sites is expected.
  • Confidential Client and Careertakes will consider reasonable accommodations for applicants with disabilities during the application and interview process. If you need an accommodation, please notify us.
