Role Overview
Confidential Client is seeking a Robotics Software Engineer (contract) based in Irving, TX to design and implement state estimation, navigation, and localization software for autonomous systems. This role focuses on turning advanced algorithms and research into robust production implementations used in real vehicles and robotic platforms.
What You’ll Do
- Lead design and implementation of state estimation and filtering solutions (Error State, Kalman, Extended Kalman).
- Implement and validate IMU-based navigation and inertial measurement processing pipelines.
- Build and integrate localization and SLAM solutions; apply graph optimization libraries and pose-graph techniques.
- Translate research papers and literature into production-quality code and tests.
- Work with robotics middleware (e.g., ROS) to integrate algorithms into vehicle/robot stacks.
- Develop coordinate-frame transforms and work across multiple reference frames reliably.
- Create physics-based vehicle models and support simulation and real-world validation.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams (controls, perception, systems) to meet product requirements.
- Document designs and produce reproducible evaluation results for stakeholders.
Qualifications (Required)
- 5+ years of hands-on experience in robotics or autonomous systems with demonstrated technical depth.
- Strong software engineering skills in C++ and/or Python and experience delivering production software.
- Proven experience implementing filtering techniques (Kalman, EKF, error-state filters).
- Deep knowledge of IMU/Inertial Measurement technology and inertial navigation concepts.
- Experience with localization approaches (SLAM, graph optimization, pose-graph solvers).
- Familiarity with Robot Operating System (ROS) or similar robotics frameworks.
- Solid mathematical foundation: 3D geometry, linear algebra, probabilistic/statistical error modeling (e.g., Gauss–Markov processes).
- Ability to convert academic research into reliable, testable implementations.
- Strong debugging and validation skills in both simulation and hardware-in-the-loop environments.
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Robotics or equivalent practical experience.
- Must be authorized to work in the U.S.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with vehicle dynamics, physics-based modeling, and control integration.
- Prior work on real-time embedded systems or perception stacks.
- Familiarity with SLAM libraries (e.g., GTSAM, Ceres) and optimization toolchains.
- Experience in safety-critical or regulated environments.
Details
- Employment type: CONTRACTOR
