What You’ll Do
Join a confidential client building advanced unmanned aerial systems (UAS). As a Robotics Software Engineer you will design and implement autonomy, navigation, and embedded software for prototype aerial vehicles. You’ll take algorithms from concept to flight—writing drivers, developing control and planning code, integrating into PX4/ROS layers, and supporting flight testing and simulation.
- Architect multi-microcontroller systems and define component roles and requirements
- Implement navigation and autonomy algorithms (SLAM, path planning) in C++ and Rust
- Develop and maintain LIDAR and other sensor drivers in C++ and Rust; write supporting tools in Python
- Integrate control and path-planning into PX4 and ROS communication layers
- Implement drivers for actuators (e.g., CANopen) and radios; debug hardware-software interfaces
- Analyze flight logs to identify and fix GNC and autonomy issues
- Build and extend the Python flight simulator; incorporate flight models for algorithm development
- Create Software‑in‑the‑Loop (SWIL) and Hardware‑in‑the‑Loop (HWIL) testing capabilities
- Configure systems, set up ground stations, and manage test-data collection during local and remote flight tests
- Support selection and integration of flight controllers, electronics, and sensors for prototypes
Basic Qualifications
- U.S. Citizenship required; eligible for U.S. security clearance
- Bachelor’s degree in Robotics, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Aerospace Engineering, or related field (Master’s preferred)
- Strong proficiency in C++, Rust, and Python
- Experience with low-level embedded programming, microcontrollers, memory management, and bit-level interfaces
- Practical experience with PX4 or other flight controllers and ROS integration
- Background in navigation algorithms (SLAM, path planning) and autonomy logic
- Proven system-architecture and component-integration skills for prototype vehicles
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience developing LIDAR drivers and integrating novel sensors
- Familiarity with CANopen actuators, beyond-line-of-sight radios, and flight‑controller internals
- Prior work building SWIL/HWIL testbeds and simulator-driven development workflows
- Experience analyzing flight logs and tuning GNC stacks for aerial vehicles
- Strong debugging skills for embedded and distributed systems in flight environments
Compensation & Benefits
- Base salary range: $90,000 USD - $210,000 USD (final offer dependent on experience, education, location, and other job‑related factors)
- Total compensation may include bonus, equity, 401(k) match, paid time off, medical/dental/vision, life insurance, and paid holidays
- Flexible leave policy for exempt, regular full-time employees (not an unlimited leave policy)
Location & Clearances
- Work location: Cambridge, MA (on-site or hybrid as required for testing and integration)
- U.S. Citizenship required and ability to obtain a U.S. security clearance; candidates must pass background checks consistent with clearance requirements
- Role requires support for local and remote flight tests; occasional travel to test sites may be required
