Overview

Confidential Client, an early-stage robotics infrastructure startup, is hiring a Robotics Data & Software Engineer (equity included). This is a hands-on engineering role focused on building the data pipelines, tooling, and software that power modern robotic systems. You'll work closely with product, hardware, and research teams to turn sensor data into production-ready software and metrics that improve system reliability and performance.

What Youโ€™ll Do

  • Design, build, and maintain robust data pipelines for sensor streams (logs, telemetry, and offline datasets).
  • Implement data ingestion, validation, and preprocessing tooling to support perception and control systems.
  • Develop reliable software components and services to support data labeling, feature extraction, and model evaluation.
  • Collaborate with ML/perception engineers to productionize algorithms and integrate them into the robot stack.
  • Build monitoring and testing infrastructure to track data quality, model performance, and release readiness.
  • Optimize for scale and real-world constraints โ€” latency, bandwidth, and compute on edge devices.
  • Contribute to code reviews, design reviews, and engineering best practices.

What Weโ€™re Looking For

  • 3+ years of professional experience in software engineering, data engineering, or robotics software (or equivalent).
  • Strong proficiency in Python; experience with C++ is a plus.
  • Hands-on experience building data pipelines, ETL processes, or tooling for large/complex datasets.
  • Practical experience processing sensor data (e.g., LiDAR, camera, IMU) or working alongside teams that do.
  • Comfortable writing production-quality code, tests, and documentation.
  • Strong debugging skills and experience with observability/monitoring tools.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills; ability to work cross-functionally in a fast-paced startup environment.
  • Must be able to work in the U.S. (Confidential Client sponsors as required โ€” discuss during process).

Nice-to-Have

  • Experience with robotics stacks or middleware (ROS/ROS2).
  • Background in perception, SLAM, or ML model evaluation.
  • Familiarity with cloud platforms, containerization (Docker/Kubernetes), and CI/CD.
  • Experience with data labeling workflows or annotation tooling.
  • Prior experience at an early-stage startup or building systems from the ground up.

Compensation & Equity

  • Equity is included as part of the package (details to be discussed during interviews).
  • Salary details are set by Confidential Client and will be provided during the interview process when appropriate.

Location & Work Type

  • Location: San Francisco, CA โ€” this role is based in San Francisco and will expect on-site collaboration.
  • Employment type: Full-time.

Why Join

  • Have a direct impact on foundational robotics infrastructure that enables deployment at scale.
  • Work with a small, motivated team building core systems and tooling.
  • Early equity upside and an opportunity to shape engineering culture and processes.
