Position summary
Confidential Client is hiring an entry-level Road Staff Engineer to join their Road Engineering Group in Fort Wayne, IN. This role supports transportation projects (interstate, interchange, urban reconstruction, rural maintenance, roundabouts) for INDOT and local agencies. Work is primarily office-based with occasional site visits. You will assist with quantity takeoffs, construction plan set development using MicroStation OpenRoads Designer (ORD), design documentation, and construction cost estimates.
What You’ll Do
- Assist with design and layout of roadway horizontal and vertical alignments
- Contribute to roadway geometry, drainage, signage, pavement markings, and maintenance-of-traffic (MOT) solutions
- Develop construction plan sets and help prepare bid-ready project documents
- Perform quantity takeoffs and support construction cost estimating
- Support pavement analysis, utility coordination, and other roadway design tasks
- Participate in occasional site visits and coordinate with project teams
- Other duties as assigned
Who You Are / Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering (recent or soon-to-be graduate)
- 0–4 years relevant experience (internships, co-ops, academic projects, or entry-level roles)
- Familiarity or willingness to learn MicroStation / OpenRoads Designer (ORD) is a strong plus
- Basic understanding of roadway design principles, drainage, and traffic control
- Strong attention to detail and ability to perform accurate quantity calculations
- Good communication skills and ability to work in a team environment
- Eagerness to learn, take direction, and grow within a transportation engineering practice
Compensation & Benefits
- Estimated base salary: $57,668 per year (estimated)
