What You’ll Do

Confidential Client is seeking an experienced perioperative RN who can function as an RN First Assistant and/or Surgical Assistant in an outpatient surgery setting. You will deliver safe, patient-centered perioperative care across pre-op, intra-op, and post-op phases and support the surgical team by anticipating needs, maintaining the sterile field, and assisting the surgeon as assigned.

• Provide comprehensive perioperative nursing care: assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of patient care before, during, and after surgical procedures.
• Serve as RN First Assistant or Surgical Assistant on assigned cases (first or second assist), under the supervising surgeon’s direction.
• Prepare the OR using surgeon preference lists; open sterile supplies and establish/maintain the sterile field.
• Anticipate and support scrub needs; handle instrumentation, counts (sponges, sharps, instruments), and specimen handling according to policy.
• Assist with patient positioning, skin preparation, Foley catheter insertion, draping, and wound closure assistance as authorized.
• Operate and monitor basic OR equipment and power instruments per training and facility policy.
• Administer medications and monitor patient condition consistent with state scope of practice and facility protocols.
• Coordinate care and communicate effectively with circulating nurses, anesthesia, providers, and other departments to ensure safe, efficient surgical flow.
• Participate in quality improvement, safety initiatives, and Universal Protocol (time-out) compliance.
• If assigned to Endoscopy, perform reprocessing and related responsibilities per applicable standards.

Required Licenses & Certifications

• Current RN license in the state of employment (or active in an applicable Nurse Licensure Compact state) — required for RN First Assistant roles.
• BLS (Basic Life Support) from an approved source — required prior to direct patient care or as stated by the facility.
• Certified Surgical Assistant (CSA) or equivalent credential may be required for Surgical Assistant roles (per state or facility policy).
• Additional certifications preferred: ACLS, PALS, CNOR, SGNA — preferred but not always required.
• Note: Candidates must meet any additional state-specific registration requirements (for example, registration with a state medical/health board where required for surgical assistant practice).

Education & Experience

• High school diploma or equivalent — required (for Surgical Assistant entry-level roles).
• Associate degree or BSN preferred for RN First Assistant/perioperative RN roles; BSN preferred by many facilities.
• Preferred: 2 years of critical care or perioperative experience and/or completion of an OR internship program.
• Preferred training: successful completion of Periop 101 or equivalent perioperative education.

• Other: surgical conscience, flexibility, ability to work in a fast-paced OR environment, maintain confidentiality of protected health information.

• Work setting: Outpatient Surgery / Ambulatory Operating Room (on-site).
• Employment type: Full-time (schedule may include variable shifts per surgical schedule; weekend or evening coverage as required by the facility).
• Location: Hamilton / Fairfield area, OH (local candidates or those eligible to work in Ohio).
