What You’ll Do

A Respiratory Therapist (PRN) provides assessment, treatment, and monitoring for patients with cardiopulmonary conditions across the continuum of care. Working as part of an interdisciplinary care team, you will deliver safe, effective respiratory care and communicate changes in patient status, diagnostic results, and responses to therapy in a timely manner.

Key responsibilities:

  • Perform patient assessments, administer respiratory treatments, and monitor response to therapy.
  • Manage ventilators, oxygen therapy, aerosolized medications, airway management, and other respiratory support modalities.
  • Collaborate closely with physicians, nurses and other care team members to coordinate patient care.
  • Accurately document assessments, interventions, and patient responses in the medical record.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives and follow established clinical protocols and safety standards.
  • Provide education and instruction to patients and families related to respiratory care and equipment use.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Graduation from an accredited school of Respiratory Therapy.
  • National Board for Respiratory Care entry-level certification (CRT) prior to first day of employment.
  • Basic computer literacy and effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to exercise initiative, independent judgment, and a commitment to continuous quality improvement.

Preferred:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Respiratory Therapy or a healthcare-related field.
  • Previous hospital or acute-care experience.
  • Additional NBRC specialty credentials.

Licenses & Certifications

All required credentials must be obtained and maintained:

  • CRT (entry-level NBRC) prior to first day of employment.
  • Valid permission (permanent or temporary) to practice from the Minnesota licensing board prior to start.
  • Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credential required upon hire or by the end of one year and must be maintained.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) required upon hire or within 90 days.
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) or equivalent as determined by site, required upon hire or within 6 months.
  • Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), where applicable.
  • Additional life support certifications as required by the site.

Compensation & Schedule

  • Hourly range: $37.63 - $56.40 per hour (PRN/as needed). Actual pay offered will consider education, experience, and internal equity.
  • Employment type: Part-time / Supplemental / PRN (as needed based on staffing).
  • Schedule: Varies; weekend and shift coverage may be required.
  • Benefits eligibility: Not benefits-eligible for this PRN role (per source). Confirm benefit details with the hiring organization during offer stage.

Location & Site

This position is based in Red Wing, MN. The confidential client operates multiple campuses and community sites; locations offer access to professional development and continuing education. Site-specific duties, patient population, and available specialty certifications may vary.
