What You’ll Do

A Respiratory Therapist (PRN) provides assessment, treatment, and monitoring for patients with cardiopulmonary disease across the continuum of care. Working as part of an interdisciplinary team, you will deliver safe, evidence-based respiratory care and help ensure continuity of care in a cost-effective manner.

  • Assess and monitor cardiopulmonary status and respond quickly to changes in condition
  • Deliver respiratory treatments and therapies (oxygen therapy, aerosolized medications, airway management)
  • Manage and monitor ventilators, perform weaning assessments and troubleshooting per protocols
  • Obtain and interpret diagnostic data (e.g., ABGs), document findings, and communicate results to the care team
  • Provide patient and family education related to respiratory care and equipment use
  • Participate in quality improvement, infection control, and safe-practice initiatives
  • Maintain accurate clinical documentation and follow unit policies and procedures

Qualifications

  • Required: Graduation from an accredited school of Respiratory Therapy
  • Preferred: Bachelor’s degree in Respiratory Therapy or related healthcare field
  • Preferred: Previous hospital or acute care experience and additional NBRC specialty credentials
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Basic computer literacy and proficiency with clinical documentation workflows
  • Ability to exercise initiative, independent judgment, and a commitment to continuous improvement

Licenses & Certifications

  • National Board for Respiratory Care entry-level certification (CRT) required prior to first day of employment
  • Valid state permission/permit to practice (permanent or temporary) required prior to first day of employment
  • Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credential required upon hire or by the end of one year and must be maintained throughout employment
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) required upon hire or within 90 days of hire
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) required upon hire or within 6 months (site-determined)
  • Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) where applicable
  • Additional life support certifications may be required depending on site of hire

Compensation & Schedule

  • Position type: Permanent, Part-time / PRN (flexible shifts)
  • Estimated annual pay (as listed by the source): $56,173 per year — estimated. This figure is provided for informational purposes and is not a guarantee of pay. Actual compensation may vary based on experience, credentials, shift differentials, and site-specific policies.
