A Brief Overview
Confidential Client is seeking an entry-level Respiratory Care Practitioner (Relief status) to provide diagnostic and therapeutic respiratory care in an acute care hospital setting. Work is performed according to physician orders or established protocols and is focused on adult patient populations. This is a day shift, 12-hour schedule opportunity.
What You’ll Do
- Perform diagnostic and therapeutic respiratory procedures within the Respiratory Care Services scope of practice.
- Administer aerosolized medications via handheld nebulizers (HHN), metered dose inhalers (MDI), dry powder inhalers (DPI), large volume nebulizers, and intrapulmonary percussive ventilation (IPV).
- Deliver medical gases and oxygen therapy (nasal cannula, masks, high-flow nasal cannula).
- Provide routine tracheostomy care, weaning, and tube downsizing.
- Assemble, check, and maintain respiratory equipment and supplies.
- Document assessments, findings, and interventions in the electronic medical record.
- Perform airway clearance techniques (chest physiotherapy, VPEP, cough assist, suctioning).
- Assess pulmonary mechanics using portable spirometry.
- Respond to cardiopulmonary arrests and rapid response calls; provide emergency respiratory therapy for non‑traumatic conditions.
- Educate patients, families, and the care team on respiratory procedures, modalities, and disease processes.
- Deliver noninvasive ventilation (CPAP/BiPAP) and manage invasive ventilation for stable patients who use home ventilators.
- Perform arterial blood gas sampling and analysis.
- Supervise and train staff and allied students on general medical floors as assigned.
Education & Experience
- Graduated from an AMA-accredited Respiratory Care program with an Associate degree required; Bachelor’s degree preferred.
- Enrollment in an AMA respiratory care program may be acceptable for students (verify credentialing requirements).
- No prior respiratory care work experience required — this is an entry-level role.
Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Effective verbal and written communication, tailored to the audience.
- Critical thinking and clinical reasoning skills.
- Competence with personal protective equipment and infection prevention procedures.
- Familiarity with medical terminology and respiratory care technologies.
- Understanding of hospital and clinical organization and administration.
- Knowledge of cardiopulmonary anatomy, physiology, pathophysiology, indications/contraindications and hazards of respiratory therapies.
- Commitment to delivering excellent patient experience and outcomes.
Licenses & Certifications
- Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) required; advanced credentials preferred (e.g., RRT-ACCS, RRT‑NPS, CPFT, RPFT).
- Basic Life Support (BLS) required.
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) required.
- Licensed Respiratory Care Practitioner (RCP) in CA required.
Physical Demands & Work Conditions
- Category I: tasks involve potential exposure to blood, body fluids, or tissues.
- Typical acute care clinical environment: standing, lifting, patient contact, and use of respiratory equipment.
Compensation
- Base Pay Scale (posted): $64.34 - $72.10 per hour.
- Final pay will be based on experience, education, specialty, and internal equity.
